Amoxicillin while pregnant? My dr prescribed it for me for a cold, and I tried to call my OB to double check but the office is not open today....i'll be 30 weeks tomorrow

Yes. I took it while pregnant.
The doctor wouldn't have given it to you if it wasn't.

Amoxicillin has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA. Animal studies using 10 times the human dose have failed to reveal any evidence of teratogenicity. Although no controlled data in human pregnancy are available, literature reports of adverse fetal effects are lacking. Amoxicillin is only recommended during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.

Why would the dr give you an antibiotic for a cold?

This is what I was wondering too, but it is safe to take Amoxicillin and of course that is one of the ones I can't take.

This dr gave me something last pregnancy he wasn't supposed to so ever since that happened I always double check with my OB before taking medication he prescribed. I was wondering the same thing about antibiotic for a cold.....I haven't taken anything this pregnancy so I was trying to avoid it but the headache/sore throat/ and mucus have gotten to me

That sounds like sinus issues not a cold. I would do a salt gargle and try to flush out your sinuses if possible!

If you don't have a bacterial infection though, the antibiotics are not going to do anything about that. Just take tylenol.

Yes, it's safe. My midwife won't prescribe or recommend any other antibiotic. (I had to take it once for a badly infected tooth.)

yeap I'm allergic to the whole cillin family and the whole cephosporin family...which means I have to search high and low for antibiotics.
