I have friends who are under 25 with 2 or more kids & they can't get them done. Idk what a lawyer would do. I'm just saying what I've been told.

Oh hell no. I'd be pissed and fight that tooth and nail. My husband doesn't have to give me permission to get my tubes tied. It's MY body, not his.

That's BS. Given the counseling, I'd guess maybe that's an insurance requirement. My insurance normally requires you do to a class before doing the procedure, but since my Dr wasn't a kaiser Dr (none in my area) he could tie my tubes without me having to go through that.

But it's absolutely crazy to need my husbands permission to do something to MY body. My body is not just a baby growing machine for his wayward sperm.

So how does paraguard work? Ive been in a relationship going on 4 years, but my SO and I talked and think he has bipolar disorder. Its hard with his mood swings to even consider having another child, even if i may want one a teeny tiny bit! lol

It's an IUD. Copper, so no hormones. They put it in at the office, and it's a little T shaped metal device that is up into your uterus.

I don't think it's permission, it's that he has to be informed. He can't deny the procedure to her.

Yeah it's stupid. She looked into it & he says she can do it after their next baby. But I guess if he wanted to go get snipped he wouldn't even have to tell her!

She said permission. Even informed I don't agree with. Don't get me wrong, MY husband knew, but I don't believe I should HAVE to inform (or get permission) for something I want to do to my own body. Likewise, I shouldn't have to be informed before he can have a vasectomy.

See, that's what pissed me off. I doubt there would be any restrictions on men, yes we women are expected to inform and have permission to have our tubes tied, as if he has some "right" to my uterus. I think not! haha

And again, don't get me wrong. I discussed my tubal with my husband of course and it was a joint choice. In any good relationship it would be. But I don't think it should be enforced that it MUST involved the husband at all.

That's exactly how I feel! It shouldn't matter if we're women. It's our body, we should be able to do what we want with it. It's not hurting anyone!

I just looked it up, there are no laws in place saying either sex has to inform or get permission from their spouse to get permanent birth control, but there are doctors who enforce the rule on a clinical level to prevent law suits.

I've never had it, but my Mom did and she loved it. I've heard some people have trouble with their periods being really heavy with it, and there's a risk of it implanting into the uterus or something. Honestly, I don't know a ton. I thought about getting it but ended up having my tubes tied after my 2nd.

I figured there wasn't a law, but the idea still irks me because some people do believe something like that SHOULD be a law. It's insane the number of people, even women, who are so quick to be willing to tear away our rights for no good reason.
