Surrogacy and being single

Do you have to have a SO in order to be a surrogate or is that something they just "prefer"?

I'd like to become a surrogate in the next couple of years but since I'm going through a divorce I worry that when the time comes I won't be able to without a man in my life. =/

A girl on here just got denied because they felt she didn't have enough "support" to deal with it and having a 4 year old son they didn't feel she had enough help.

ETA she has an SO, too, they just haven't been together long.

I personally wouldn't do it even if you could. What if you couldn't work during it? You'd have to deal financially with that, and taking care of your kids. What if you end up on bedrest?

It isn't ideal, and a LOT of ladies want to be surrogates, so I think it's pretty easy to turn people down, you know?

And there is so much to go through to get approved, any one thing you "fail" you're out. So chances of being able to be one are pretty slim, anyhow.

Theres a mom on here that is a surrogate and just had twins. You should ask her, she will probably know the answer to most of your questions since she's done it.

Yep. Since there can be a lot of money involved in it, there are lots of people willing to do it. Not to mention a lot of people would rather family/friends be surrogates (they can trust them more then a stranger) so if you have anything that really is "off" you can get denied.

Sort of like donating eggs too.

I was thinking of doing it for a family member if they are wanting/willing.

Well then it's much more possible. At that point it's a personal choice, not through an agency. Just make srue EVERYTHING is written down and signed, you don't want family problems over it. Do it all on the up and up.

Both of mine were pretty normal. I hated it for a lot of things but my brother and sister-in-law are unable to have a baby of their own so I kind of thought it'd be a cool gift for them.

Mine were not normal, haha. 27 weeker with my first and 10 weeks of bedrest with my 2nd. So I LOATHE being pregnant. Had my tubes tied with bear traps at each end. lol

If it's family then that's different I'm pretty sure. You aren't being chosen through an agency or doing that pre selection thing.

I am just starting out on my surrogacy journey... findsurrogatemother was a life-saver in helping me through the process. No worries!! communication is the key...explain your situation and see what options you have. Best of lukc to you. Latoya--
