Extreme Preemie baby clothing??

posted 4th Oct
I was diagnosed with severe Preeclampsia and hospitalized because my blood pressure was so high. Well, we made it 5 days and then I had a severe Placental Abruption and baby Timothy came very early via emergency c-section. 26 weeks and 5 days. He's currently in the NICU and will be for about 3 months and he is going to be needing clothes soon. He's very small, born 1 pound 11 ounces and all of the preemie clothes we have looked at are much to big for his little body. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I can find him anything? I've tried looking for doll clothes for him as a possibility but I can't really find any boy doll clothes. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!

Whn my niece was born at 28 weeks..she was 2lbs 11oz.

But my stepmom went out to toys R us & bought tons of doll clothes for her.

Just look for neutral stuff..whites/yellows/greens.

Eta: this was 13 yrs ago..so I'm sure there are places online that sell them now.

He is expected to be off of his ventillator within a week and he has just one PAL line in his left arm. The nurses asked me about clothes for him and said that we could get him dressed in about two weeks. I think I couldn't find anything online because I just typed preemie clothes... I didn't think to add "micro" so I will try that. Thank you!

I just googled some stuff for you. I think the only place you will find them is online, but if you order them now it shouldn't take too long. Maybe you can get them delivered to a friend or family member's house so they can bring them to you? Good luck with everything. How is baby doing?

Thank you so much! I will have them sent to my mother's house. Timothy is doing very good. He had his brain ultrasound done on Monday and it came back perfect. No bleeds or damage, and good circulation. He's also beating the ventillator. It gives 45 breaths per minute and he's taking 61. He's kicking butt!

As the grandmother of a micro preemie, I know that doll clothes are not really appropriate for the very tiny preemies. If they are allowed at all to use clothes, they need to meet certain standards for the NICU, like the NICU shirts. Zippers are a bad idea. As they get bigger there are more options. As for doll clothes, I guess you could use them, but they aren't really made for babies, they aren't really made of the softest fabrics and detail to keeping things not scratchy. Preemies have extremely sensitive skin. We got our clothes from the ones listed above and it was so much fun to actually have something really cute and that REALLY fit their tiny little frames. Best wishes to you!

you need to ask the hospital staff where you can purchase some locally..or online. Doll clothes will not be the best option as the premie clothes are made out of all cotton. They will be made to allow easy acess to baby for checks etc. THey will not have anything that could scratch their thin delicate skin etc. They will be easy to get onto babe as they are so frail and delicate.
