Fever in baby.

posted 4th Oct
My ten week old has a fever of 100.3

I read online that if they have a fever of 100.4 and are under three months they should be seen immediately. I don't believe everything I read online but how long should I let it go for until I take him in to see a doctor?

He has had a cough for over 6 weeks that will not go away. He has been in twice for it.

also my other two kids just had something like this so maybe he caught it? They had the high fever for a day and then it went away.

he is eating normally and smiling.

In babies over 3 months under 3 months its 100.4 (according to the AAP)

Try tylenol first. If the fever doesnt break or come down then call the doctor. Or if it doesnt come down. Does your doctor have an after hours number or a nurses line you can call?

They can have tylenol at 10 weeks. As long as its the right dosage.

You are much better off leaving that fever alone. I would call the doctor, report the fever, ask if your baby needs to be seen, monitor the temperature every three or four hours to make sure it isn't going up, but I would not treat the fever.
Fever is the body's way of treating the illness, and it is very effective.
I would only treat the fever if it gets very high, the doctor says it is important to treat, or if it is causing your baby either a lot of pain or making it difficult for him/her to sleep.

Thank you. We gave him Tylenol because he was very unhappy. He was up from 1 am till 4 am crying so we gave him some...stripped him down to a onsie and he cooled down for a bit. I am calling the doctor just to ask if I should continue this or bring him in.

A febrile seizure... I heard those were actually common but thank god I've never had to experience this. Omg. I don't care how common they are, as a mother, I would freak the F*** out too. lol I hope he's feeling better. =)
