GBS +

Today I found out I'm group b strep + I cried I have no idea what it is what it does to my health or my daughters health I need someone to tell me what it is if they've had it before n what was the outcome my dr says its NOT a std but it could pass to the baby and cause breathing problems what other things happen I was reading it can also cause still birth what the % on that someone PLEASE HELP oh and I'm 1 cm and I'm only 35 weeks will this cause me to go into labor sooner?!!

Don't panic, it's common, you'll just need antibiotics during labor and everything will be fine.

I was GBS + with dd2 and freaked out just like you. But seriously, it's way more common than you would think. NO it's not an STD at all. All you have to do is have antibiotics during labor and your baby will be fine. It's really nothing to worry about at all. Calm down and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy  

GBS+ with DS. Got IV antibiotics in the hospital and they came into the room a lot after DS was born to check his vitals. I went a day past my due date and finally got induced (my request, I couldn't move or walk)

Then why do they say it cause a still birth I have 2 other kids n didn't have it with them why would I have it now is it something I did to cause me to have it?

as the girls said above, i tested pos with my 1st and had the iv but this time i tested neg so go figue........... i think it's only a prob if you deliver vag if you have a c sect it's not an issue...... it's all good enjoy..

It's a common bacteria that alot of people have, it only causes issues during a delivery.

How is your baby now? And how did labor go for you and the baby

If it is untreated, it can cause issues. The fact that you know means the hospital will know, and you will get antibiotics once you are admitted. It will be ok!!!

i tested positive too so they started me on antibiotics before they started my induction but it is no big deal it wont cause you to go into early labor or anything like that it just sounds scary!

Yeah I started crying!! I just hope my baby girl will be ok I don't want to get this far then something happen to her :'(

I tested positive for Gbs to I'm due in 2 wks with my fifth child it's no big deal. They give you antibiotics just to make sure everthing is sanitary for you and baby you'll be ok

They didn't even tell me for about 3 weeks when I tested pos, lol. They thought I knew. I bugged out for about 3 hours and read that it wasn't a big deal at all. Really common, and can happen anytime. Didn't have it with DD, but had it with DS. He is a happy, healthy 2.5 month old

Ok makes me feel slot better I guess I'm over thinking it and putting things in my head :/

Btw, since the other ladies didnt answer this question:
No, being 1 cm dilated does not mean you will go into labor sooner. You could take weeks to dilate completely, even go past your due date. Don't stress about it.
