anything i should know about being induced?

posted 3rd Oct
my OB is going to induce me tuesday night around 8 pm. and i just had some questions about some things. here are my questions:
What do i need to pack?
Does it make labor complicated?
Do i have to stay laying down the whole time while i'm waiting for my labor to start?
Does any1 have any recomendations for me?

Deny it unless it is medically necessary. Don't force anything obviously your body/baby aren't ready

It's not good to do unless medically necessary.

Bring chapstick!!! Seriously, I can't stress it enough. That was the only thing I absolutely needed. Personally, it made my labor miserable and extremely long! I had been in labor for more than 12 hours and was only dilated at 1 :/ and I had to stay laying down because I was on Magnesium for my BP. I'm not sure if you do or not without it?

I HAD to be induced the first time because I leaked amniotic fluid for a week and a half ... with my second, doc induced because baby was 2 days past due date... I had to have a c-section.. I wish I had fought harder not to be induced the 2nd time... xo

my OB wants to induce me cause he said if i dont from the looks of it i could go a month after my due date, and he just wants to get him out safely. and he's also in an akward position and he's not moving down at all. my OB said its about the best thing to do so tht the amniotic sack doesnt get too small, or him get the cord wrapped around his neck because of his position.

Watch the business of being born. I was induced. I wont say i regret it..because my son was born healthy..but pitocin causes longer harder, more frequent contractions. its not pleasant. Idk..next time i def hope to do it naturally.

In that case.. good luck! I'm sure you'll be fine...walk around while you can, the pain can get intense FAST. Try different positions and try to stay focused.

pack whatever you would normally pack, everyone is diff, i brought make up, hair gear, baby clothes, take home clothes for me, ect.

it can complicate labor, but it may be just fine too!! just depends on how your body reacts to the drugs.

it can take a while. dont expect to hold your baby in a few hours, although, some inductions are very short and go just fine! mine took almost 5 days. (it was awful, but my bp was very high, and if it is again, i will do it again. it wasnt so awful i wouldnt do it again, i did get a pretty cute baby out of it after all! )

i was able to walk around. depends on the hosp and doc. if you get an epidural, you wont be able to move! lol. but i would take breaks from the drugs (5 days is a long time!) and get up, walk around, get in the shower (pain relief). i believe you can still walk around w a potable iv though.

be patient. medically inducing is making your body do something it is not ready or wanting to do. whatever the reason. many end in csections bc ppl get impaitent, and/or tired, or the dr pushes them into it. im sure everything will go just fine. try to relax, and enjoy the last few moments of quiet! ;)

YES chapstick! I took somebody's advice on here about that, and i definitely needed it. I was 2 weeks late when I was induced. I got to walk around. I over packed. Honestly, just bring nice pjs and sweat pants.. I was way too bloated for regular clothes and my feet were so swollen that I walked out of the hospital in socks. And one outfit for the baby. Maybe some PJ bottoms you dont care about too much. I didnt feel comfortable laboring in a johnnie.. I hate those things.

Being induced can suck...with my first I had to have my cervix softened which they started that around 7am I was only 1cm dilated at the time and my son wasn't born until 4:38pm the next day. I was able to get up and walk around the whole first day there....make sure you bring something to keep you entertained, if I end up being induced again I'm going to make sure I have a book and other things with me....good luck!

They had me stay in the bed, I couldn't even get up to go to the bathroom but I also had high blood pressure. The pain was manageable with no pain meds until they broke my water, then all hell broke loose.

Chapstick is good, especially if your in labor for a long time (I was about 26 hours before they carted me off to the OR). The lips get really really dry, especially with nothing to eat or drink.

I wish you the best and I hope you had a better experience than I did.

Make sure you eat and drink plenty before you go. It take awhile. From the time they started my pitocin, it took 14 hours to deliver him. The only thing that went kind of wrong was they had to use the vacuum, other than that, I had a great experience.

You are not allowed to walk around since you will be getting piticin ((most likely)) and they will be putting a catheter in you ((I had an epi as well, so I am not sure if you still get it without getting one))

Bring something to do...I played on my phone and watched TV for most the time. Hairbands, thick/comfy socks ((it is cold in there)) have someone take pictures and write down times you want to remember ((how long you were in labor, pushed, etc)) Quarters for you partner for vending machines, chapstick

I never gave birth another way, but it was not difficult at all to me.

Also, you do what you want to do. Don't let a few mamas who watched a documentary make you scared. This decision is up to you and your doctor only. Good luck!

Personally, i would stick it out till 40-42 weeks. Give baby all the time you can.

can i ask why bring chapstick? lol. i mean i love my chapstick, but why would you need to bring it to the hospital? not being rude or anything it's just something i never heard/ thought about bringing.
