18 and terrified

posted 3rd Oct
im 18 and 24 weeks; im excited to be a mom and im trying super hard to be prepared for the changes that are arriving; but im still terrified. I have the biggest fear of needles and that is what's starting to set in is the needles and with the IV and the epidural and everything its really starting to scare me because ive heard that the IV being put in your arm is painful and its a big needle, and with the epidural i know the needle is big and that was said to be painful as well and with that im terrified im going to have a preemie due to my asthma from articles ive been reading because ive been having asthma attacks and my doctor told me there is a possibility. I guess i just want to know a little more about things.

And YES im 18 and going to be a "TEEN MOM" but just because the fact im going to be a "TEEN MOM" doesn't make it to the fact that i will be a "Bad mom" or "Not cut out to be a mother" so no i dont want your negativeness or to hear you bitch and moan about how im either to "young" or "not ready" because i love children i work at a daycare with the infant's and toddlers and ive baby sat my niece and nephews sense they were born and i love children and im more excited than anything to meet my son, but im not sorry im more scared of needles then i am of becoming a mother, because i have my family to help me and my fiance's family as well and i have faith in myself of becoming a mother, and im going to be a teen mom but NO that doesnt mean im not going anywhere in my life so if thats what you think i dont want you opinion because your wasting your breath because i've heard it enough and just dont care about what you think because you dont know me and what im capable of.

You don't have to get an epidural.

In all honesty, it's highly likely that the contractions will hurt so much, you won't mind getting the epidural (I didn't even feel mine go in).

For one the needle for your iv is in for like 2 seconds, its a catheter that is put in, and it isnt that bad. If you are scared of needles you do not have to have an epidural you can go with out pain meds.

You don't have to have the Epi and usually if you wait until you are in uncontrollable pain then you don't even notice it. The IV isnt that bad but you do have the right to refuse it. However if you think you might want an Epi then you should have it.

In my opinion... the needles aren't that bad. The more you think about it beforehand the more it'll hurt come time, trust me. I have NEVER had a problem with needles but I got the thought in my head that it'd hurt and when I had my flu shot, guess what? It hurt lol.
How premie are you talking? My son was 36w and perfectly healthy
Good luck! xo

The iv is just a standard iv...and the epi is not required, so there is no need to worry about that unless you think a needle is better than labor pains. But try not to worry, is can be scary but labor is just one (hopefully just one) really bad day.

I had my baby 2 weeks ago, and I won't lie to you, getting the iv wasn't fun. It doesn't help the lady doing it had no clue what she was doing, and they had to bring in someone else to finally get it. But it'll be ok. And the epidural didn't hurt at all. There's some pressure you feel, but that's it.

My doctor told me about 30 weeks it will get harder for me to breath so with that they may have to do a c-section or try to induce labor around 30-32 weeks if im having to much difficulty breathing.

Well if they know baby will be coming that early they will also give you meds to help speed up lung growth. Baby might have to spend some extra time in the hospital, but I'm thinking things should be okay. Try to relax and if needed, bring this up with your doc. They should be able to talk to you more and calm your fears. I know it's hard, I was 16 when I was pregnant with my first and ignored by my doc(thinking I was over exaggerating) But try to talk and find someone who will listen, if your doc wont.

Good luck xo

you should be terrified, but um . . . not of the needles come time that will be the last thing on your mind lol. But being a mom is both exciting and terrifying. once you go into labor you may find your self begging for a needle but once your LO is in your arms after the labor and reality e=sets in that this little life is yours, and you are responsible for every single thing it does, and you realize you made that beautiful baby, well for me thats when I got scared.
