UTI's in children
posted 3rd Oct
My daughter has had a history of UTI's. She got them mostly when she was still in diapers because she was holding her urine. She has been potty trained for about 6 months and has been okay. Today she was complaining that it hurts and grabbing herself. It is very red and swollen in her little area I can't seem to find anything on google on whether or not external redness is a symptoms of UTI's. Anyone know? She said it burns when she pees and does not itch. I'm wondering if it's another UTI or something else...

Regardless if it burns when she pess and her vagina is very red and swollen I would be taking her to the ER or Urgent Care.

I would too.
Also, if she takes bathes and sits with soap in the water or bubble bathes can cause UTIs I used to get them all the time when I was little. Even now I can't sit in bath water unless it's pure water.

Red and swollen can be a symptom of UTIs, and if it burns when she pees but doesn't itch it probably is a UTI. I used to get them almost monthly as a kid, it turns out my urethra wouldn't valve right and were letting bacteria back up into my bladder. First thing my mom had to do though was not allow bubble baths and no let me play in the bath after I used soap and shampoo. That helped cut them back a lot. Also making sure she wipes from front to back helps prevent them.

My dd is 4 and has been having UTIs since 8 months old. Its not fun and dont mess around with them at all.
She had a UTI a few months ago where she stopped eating and drinking high fevers of 104, we bring her every 2 weeks to get urine cultures done cause of her history of them And at 4 yrs old we know when she gets them cause she pees her pants constantly all day long and has been potty trained since 17 months old.
Only happens when she has one tho. She gets this leg shake thing going on when she has one.
