medi-cal question

posted 3rd Oct
Where can you find information on what medi-cal will/will not cover? My cousin is morbidly obese (like 500lbs) and her doctor told her she qualified for the weight loss surgery. She has medi-cal, so her doctor isnt 100% sure if the surgery is covered and submitted a claim to find out, but she wanted to know if there was somewhere she could check to find the information for herself. I told her to check the medi-cal website but she said there wasnt anything there that listed what it covers, so idk if shes just looking in the wrong place or where she could look to find some information.

yeah I doubt it is but her doctor keeps telling her it "probably" is because shes so overweight its a medical necessity for her to lose the weight.

Yes they will but there are quite a few hoops to jump through. Basically it has to be considered life saving surgery.

At one time medi-cal stopped paying for it. To many people would gain that extra 20 pounds on purpose to get the surgery done. Now they might have went back to doing it. Last time I checked they wouldnt pay for it anymore
