Heart Defects

posted 3rd Oct
My baby girl has been diagnosed with a Double Outlet Right Ventrical and a Ventricular Septal Defect. The Specialist said that she may need surgery done after birth, but as along as both ventricals contiune to grow at the same pace the surgery can wait. I was wondering if anyone has had a child that had this heart defect and how they did?

Thank you! I did read his story, and your boy is so amazing!

We had an Amnio taken and it came back normal so they said that Isabella has no other problems besides the DORV and the VSD. I dont know what to expect. The doctors told me that she should only need 1 surgery and that as long as her ventricals grow at the same rate that it could be postponed till she is 6 months. They also said that it will take her a while to eat.

Is there anything I can do to help her? Like after she is born is there anything special I can do?

The vsd with this defect helps a lot. Because the two vent rivals are in the one chamber the blood isn't getting cleaned properly and moved around the proper areas. The hole allows this to an extent.

For my sons surgery they created an artificial valve and placed it through the hole to the correct chamber and then closed the hole around it.

Before the surgery and after try and keep a clean sterile environment, make sure everyone's hands are clean before touching your LO. Just love on her as much as you can.

After surgery you can't lift her up under her arms until about a month after. But they will most likely tell you all that. But she will be in a lot of pain. Be on morphine and maybe oxicodone. (My son was) its difficult. Try and stay strong.

Because I got so sick at the begining of this pregnancy I lost my job. I haven't been put on Bed Rest yet, but they told me to take it easy. I had to take the 3hr Gestational Diabetes Test and I passed all the blood draws except for the 1st one which was the fasting one. The doctors told me I do not have Gestational Diabetes, but I am diagnosed with Glucose Intolertance which could go away after she is born. I have been debating on finding an online job and working at home. With her heart defects do you think that is a good idea to work at home?
