Should I be pissed?

Well, we weren't going to do a baby shower due to our current financial situation, but my friend got a hold of my mom and said she'd throw $150 down on the shower because she really wanted me to have one. So, mom agreed and we've been planning and getting a few things with my fiancée's money... She comes to me today and said her money is going to be tight so she doesn't think she'll be able to help. Idk how to take that.. I mean I'm grateful she even wanted to help BUT we were depending on her to do her part.. We would still be paying about $350 for EVERYTHING else. It kinda broke my heart because its letting my mom down and now my fiancée is going to have to clean up her mess. I feel horrible for even wanting a baby shower now. ):

Any reason why it's costing so much? Mine cost like 150 total...

$350 is a ton of money to waste on a shower. If you aren't in the position to spend that kind of money easily, then it would be wise to just spend that on baby items. Besides, throwing your own shower is a bit silly.

Find places to cut costs. Where is the $350 going?

Maybe I'm just cheap but that sounds so expensive for a baby shower. What the heck are you buying?? Lol I just spent $20 on ALL my decorations including plates and napkins and stuff. All I have left to do is buy some snack foods. My aunt is making the cake. Yes, I would be a little disappointed tho if I were depending on her money...

What the hell are you spending $350 on?

I wouldn't be pissed. My SIL talked me into doing her baby shower and it was supposed to be right around Christmas and I had to tell her I couldn't swing it.
And that's a lot to spend on a shower.... Decorations and games $50 max and cake $20....

Well that's just it, I wasn't suppose to throw it LOL but now word is out and everything about my shower so we are kinda stuck doing it. Not technically but you know.. 350 isn't bad we have to rent a place for one because our house is way too small and my family is way too big alone.. Plus friends please my fiancées family. It's gunna be pretty big. And we tried going cheap with mostly dollar store stuff and NOT catering but preparing our own food. But with another 150 tacked on that'll be too much.): I was somewhat skeptical when I finally found out about the shower(it was suppose to be a surprise) but I figured they're gunna do it anyway!

My cousin threw me a shower for my third, it was all desserts and drinks, don't think she spent more than 100 and it was really nice everyone had fun! Really don't think a shower should cost that much..

$500 on a party is insane. She was going to spend $150 and you $350... What s the EVERYTHING else you were describing?

There is no reason you should be upset at her. Money is tight and she can't, you never know what came up.. Although she offered, you shouldn't depend one someone else to put down the money for you and should of had a better backup plan imo

Find someone willing to host at their house or go to a park for free. Renting a place when money is already tight is stupid.

I rented a room for mine and that only cost $30

I went with my mom to the dollar store to get a lot of the stuff.. like napkins, cups, balloons, gifts, etc... saved her a lot of money woulda been triple if we went somewhere like walmart. And with stuff like that it really doesn't matter because it's going to be used once and thrown away. Gifts we got the gift bags there, and put like a candle and picture frame in each one. I ended up buying like some smelly nailpolish kits for the little girls I knew would be there. But I ended up having a very nice good shower costing very little.

Yeah, why not somebody's backyard or even just a park?
