This may be an odd way to look at it. But I've read a few articles about passing it on to kids. And one article relates it to as thought someone had sickle cell and that gave it a better understanding, at least for me it did.

I'll look that up for comparison too, thank you. I want to make sense of this before we decide when/if to have children. Because he was in serious pain, and I don't know if I want to set my children or grand children up for that. He swells, he can't move, the muscle tissue breaks down and goes through his kidney, which causes even more pain, then he urinates it out.

Well since you don't have it your kids will not, and the only way your grandkids would have it is if your kids got the recessive gene and then found someone else who was also the carrier and had kids

But sadly there are little to no studies in the US, all of them are in Canada.

I should probably see if I am a carrier, I'm sure someone in my family could have it, and not know. I don't know lol I should have paid attention in biology.

I looked at some punett crosses or whatever they are called and if you are a carrier, your 3rd and 4th children would have a 50% chance of having it.
