Thrush!!
posted 3rd Oct
My son went to his two week check up today and he has thrush. Thing is, I'm breastfeeding and don't want to get it on my nipples (I'm breastfeeding). I don't think I have it because I don't have any symptoms. My son was given a prescription and I started it today... If I do have it I don't want to keep passing it to him while he is being treated. Do you ladies have any experience with this? Also, he is on nystatin.

Nystatin takes a week to kick it (if it even does) which makes u more susceptible to catching it. And that doesn't mean just on the exterior of your nipples. You can get it up in your milk ducts which is ultra painful. I recommend using gentian violet. It liked my dd's thrush in 2 applications (once in morning once at night). It stains but u can also tub some on your nips to prevent it from getting on the exterior. If u have any questions let me know.

Nystatin is what his pedi prescribed. Your post really broke my heart because I'm really starting to like and get the hang of breastfeeding... I co-feed. I currently only breastfeed once a day.

Sorry I upset you. But it sucks to get it and if you're only doing one feedin a day if u got it you might want to quit which would be sad. I know what drs prescribe. They won't prescribe gentian violet. I asked a dr about it and te only j go they could give me is what I already found on askdrsears.com. I was pissed. From that day on I kinda gave up on dr advise unless its serious and do my own research. I've had thrush twice. It was the worst pain ever. The first time we did the nystatin route as a precaution to her. I was the only one that had it. But the second time she got it bad and I got it and it sucked. I got on diflican and used the GV on dd and life was good. A lot of people go nystatin route and struggle a long time. U might have caught it since u don't have it yet. But you can also take some nystatin after feedings and rub it on your nipples to dry.
May I ask why you're only nursing once a day?

Because its all I can fit in. I'm really busy and I'm always around others but still wanted my baby to have its benefits. I just got out the shower and one nipple is sore and cracked... I think I may have it. Will rubbing his prescription on my nipples still work??

It might. By honestly I'm not a big nystatin fan. I personally like GV. But yes u can rub nysatin on and let it air dry on there.
You can bf In front of others. Does he sleep all night? U can nurse at night as well.
