Hitchhikers

Wwyd?..Would you pick someone up under certain circumstances, or are you someone who doesnt even look twice no matter who it is? The thought came to mind when i passed a mama walking in the rain with what looked like a newborn in a carrier under a blanket. She had an umbrella but wasnt using it, and was right near the strip mall where she was most likely headed.

Would you have stopped?

Not with my kids in the car, ever. Without them? Possibly.

I know my Dad had that rule. If we were in the car he didn't pick up anyone, but if we weren't in the car he picked up anyone because he knew what it was like to not have a car. Here that is a big deal since there isn't really reliable mass transit.

Me too, I always think of the worst possible situations, like what if that women was a serial killer, and was using a baby as a ploy, or if it was a fake baby...

I would never pick up a hitchhiker. EVER. I dont care if they are bleeding to death or someone with kids. You never trust anyone like that because you dont know what they are capable of doing.

I remember my father always picking up hitchhikers, but that was 20 years ago, I feel like things are so much scarier now-a-days. Anything could happen and people will go to any lengths to get what they want.

Locally, no... unless they're like... "online hitchhikers" in the local community. lol The guys that usually hitchhike are pretty sketchy.

The innocent times where you could pick someone up off the road are gone, baby or not, I'm not stopping. I remember me and my sister and her three kids were stranded on the freeway in a thunder storm, we walked for quite awhile to get to a service station. One guy in a van stopped for us, but we were just as scared to get in the van with him, as he was to stop for us and let us in, we said no thanks and kept walking.

I would never pick up a hitchhiker while I am alone. I am only 106lb., and nearly anyone could over-power me if they really wanted to. I have, while with a couple of other adults, picked up a few older folk alongside the road. But otherwise, no.

It's really not scarier. You just hear about things more. There is more coverage because of the news. It isn't more dangerous though, we are just more aware of the danger.

Very true. I feel like people are more desperate now tho, and are getting more creative in how they take advantage of people.
