membranes sweeping

posted 3rd Oct
I'm 39.2 weeks along and had my membranes swept today. This is my first child and I am already 4 cm dilated and 75% effaced. Her head is also engaged. I know my baby will come out when ready but what are your guesses on how much longer? I know that you usually carry your first child the longest but i am just so mentally and physically ready to be done with this pregnancy.

Any helpful advice would be much appreciated

I had mine swept at that exact same point in my pregnancy with my first baby & it worked! I had that done at 11am at my dr apt & at 1145 my contractions started. I checked in the hospital at 9 that night & my baby girl was born at 9:52 am the next morning! If your body is ready, & it sounds like yours is (I was only 2cm & 85% effaced) then it will work! Get everything ready & sleep while you can & good luck (;

Well since you got your membranes swept it could be in the next 24-48 hours. I got mine swept with my first and went into labor 20 hours later

It could happen tonight. Thats the whole thing with the babies they pick when they want to come lol. I went to 38 weeks and 6 days with my 1st. I think when they had enough they will start releasing the hormone for labor. Just be ready any minute lol

If only we could have the exact same experience lol. I should sleep I have gotten horrible insomnia during this pregnancy. Do you know of any tricks to help things after getting ur membranes swept?

I was like this as well, 4 cm dilated, 75% thinned; only my water bag was so heavy it was bulging. They anticipated me going into labor any second after a membrane sweep... went 8 days late and was induced.

I'm 39w3d and had my membranes swept monday...it just gave me 24 hours of the most horribly painful irregular contractions. BUT I am only 1cm, not sure about the other part but I know my OB said my cervix was still very thick so I hope it works better for you!

Me too & I'm dealing with it in this pregnancy too   I used to sit/rock on an exercise ball & it felt so good lol. It's supposed to help with contractions & back pain & help dilation & the baby to drop lower. Walking. Sex. & I've heard being on your hands & knees swaying your hips left to right..kinda like shaking your butt lol...helps, but I've never done the last one haha. I walked & used my ball when I got home from that appointment & it got real painful real fast! Lol
