birth control, which one?!

posted 3rd Oct
I have never ever been on any type of birth control, other than condoms but my husband & I are wanting something somewhat more long term (about a year- a year & a half) & more reliable than condoms bc that's how our oopsy happened this time lol. I plan to Breastfeed so I need it to be compatible with that. & I won't remember to take any pill so that's out!

What kind do you use? What symptoms do you have with it? Does anyone know if the Depo Provera shot is ok to Breastfeed with? I've heard about supply problems concerning that..

TIA!

Is that the kind with the string? Or does it go on your uterus? I have no idea which one that is

I will be getting Mirena and I breastfeed. My OB said I can't get it until I start my period though.

Paragard

Similar to mirena but has been around for like twenty more years. Hormone free, ie you do get normal periods. I love my paragard I have had it for 3 years without issue.

I agree with Bobo's mum. Paragard is the best way to go. You don't have to remember to take, change, or do really anything with an IUD and Paragard is non-hormonal. Hormones can affect breastfeeding (can lower your milk supply) and hormones are just not good for your body in the first place. I think you should let your body do what its going to do naturally.

I could never take any type of birth control pill, i've tried several kinds and they always made super sick and weight gain like crazy. I used the depo for about a year before I got pregnant and LOVED it, no periods, my weight never went up or down, my skin was so clear. This time around i'm going to try to Implanon, my doctor said it would be good for me and I want LONG lasting BC since no more babies for me

I'm really leaning towards this one! I am terrified of any IUD bc both of my sister in laws went thru their uterus, & one was pregnant at the time it happened which resulted in a mc of course. Supposed to be a rare occurrence but I personally know of 2 :/

Did you breast feed with the shot? How many weeks PP were you when you started it? & can you get that in your arm or just your butt? Haha.

All my friends that have had the IUD hate it, one had it imbed into her uterus and she had to have it a big surgery to take care of it and it was SUPER scary.
I wasn't able to breastfeed cause DS was preemie and had to stay in the hospital. But you can breastfeed with the shot from what my doctor told me, and I got the shot at my 6 week PP appt and then you go every 3 months. It's put in your arm, and they alternate the arm each time. Thank goodness it doesn't go in your butt lol

I'm so terrified of IUD!! I heard that by 6 weeks your supply is established enough to get the shot without any effect, or very little. My friend, she's never had a baby, gets it in her butt bc she prefers there over anywhere else lol that's why I asked. I can't do that!!! Def think this is what I'll get, thanks so much!(:

Depo is good in a sense, but I have problems with it. It made me have a 1.5 month long period and I was very close to being hospitalized. Its not good for me.   But if it works for you, then I'd say go for it.
