re: Bullying Body Types D&D

I don't think it is beneficial to police anyone's body. There is no wrong way to have a body. The choice belongs to the individual who resides within it.

I agree with this.

I think education kids from dot with a healthy, balanced lifestyle is the key. Access to cheaper and healthier food, how to cook healthier meals and things to do that don't revolve around a sedentary lifestyle would also help. People should be healthy- not obese or anorexic but healthy.

When your body type begins to affect your health then this is a problem! Too big, too skinny, both can be bad. On the other hand people have health issues which make them both ways too.

I agree with you - I am overweight and I can feel that it affects my health. I have had plenty of health PROFESSIONALS point it out throughout my pregnancy and although they should shut the smurf up as there is no medical need to bring up the fact that I am 1 point over a normal BMI they have encouraged me to reduce my weight after I give birth - plus I want my daughter to have healthy influences in her life.

1 point over your BMI? They kidding? It's not totally accurate anyway hun so I would not worry. Plus you're having a baby so would worry about it at a later date if it's an issue once baby is here. It takes months normally anyway for your body to start getting back to normal   xx

I know it's like I'm inbetweeny so Drs think they should tell me I'm a bit overweight just in case I didn't smurfing know. I know what size my knickers are thanks! I'm not too worried about it as I think I am damn sexy but I have asthma and I think if I use the BMI measurements as inspiration and get to the middle of the normal scale then I'll feel much better and Drs won't be able to say anything which will be nice

It would be great if we could establish, a system that encouraged nurturing attitudes towards our bodies without putting a value judgment on body size. Something that doesn't dictate what a body should or shouldn't be. If we become more in tune with our bodies, learn how to listen to them, we'd all gain health benefits.

People know when they are unhealthy. If they are too thin or too big, we all know our bodies and we've usually been told by doctors to gain or lose weight. Yes, we can be unhealthy in both positions but we also get bullied by outsiders in both positions.

Thin women are told to eat more and stop puking or are called anorexics when they are naturally thin, overweight women are told they are fat, pigs or need to go on a diet because their bodies are large... It's the bullying I don't get.

And in media, you only see bullying as one sided when it comes to body issues.

People got up in arms and defended a heavy-set anchor woman who was being bullied... but they rally together to say the same things about thin models and actresses.

I think it is an outdated instinct humans have to get rid of the weak- fat and thin are signs of bad health and for some stupid reason people who are uneducated and can't listen to reason think it's ok to berate those of an unhealthy weight. It's pointless - just as pointless as our wisdom teeth are now.
Although in saying this, if I see a really overweight like REALLY overweight or really skinny person I do admittedly feel negatively toward them - probably for many reasons but I would never bully them about it.

I use to harbor a lot of skinny hate. But most of it came from the fact that I was uncomfortable in my own body.

Now that I'm getting healthier and fit, I've come to realize that there are different body types when it comes to healthy and no one should be judged for their size. Big or small.

People always want to blame someone else.

Yep. And honestly? I notice WAY more hate either way towards people who are happy. As in, a person who is fat and seems to be apologizing for themselves I find is less a target of ridicule as a person who is fat and happy with themselves. Same with skinny. Confidence I think is something people like to tear down. The idea of not fitting into the "perfect size" and still being happy or confident? That's intolerable for some people.

I definitely used to go with the "skinny, pretty girls are bimbos/dumbasses", but that was my way of trying to make myself feel better.

When I was 14 I was volunteering and this blonde, perky cheerleader was there. I remember seeing her thinking "she must be stuck up, stupid and mean!" She was the nicest girl, smart, talented at EVERYTHING (singing, dancing, cheering, horseback riding, played three instruments and was a straight A student). And even though she was so friggin' perfect, she wasn't even fake nice! She was honestly one of the nicest girls I've ever met.

Damn, I was jealous, but it woke me up! haha
