How old is too old for a bottle?

posted 3rd Oct
My daughter is 17 months old and i give her one bottle in the morning and at night, but just started giving up the morning bottles. A couple people have made comments about her being too old for bottles and pacifiers. How old were your Lo's when they gave the bottle ( and paci if they used one) up?

And ive tried giving her milk in a sippy cup but she wont take it

My kids were off the bottle by 12 months and switch to sippy.

I didn't give them a pacifier.

my LO was off the bottle by the time he was 1 but he was never attached to his bottle so he didn't really care but I'd say around 18 months is just starting to get a little old but not that big of a deal..I just hate seeing 3 year olds with bottles and soothers :/

We did away with the bottles about 2 weeks after she turned 1. The paci took quite a bit longer. Finally did away with it at 19 months (I had to just throw them all out and deal with her crying for 2-3 weeks at bedtime.. then she was fine)

Both of my kids use cups after six months. The pacifier is taken away at six months, too. Breast fed babies, but lots of pumped milk for them.

I'm not sure the exact age, but I know at some point, pacifiers can effect the teeth. And night time bottles are a concern for bottle rot.

Breastfed...he never really got attached to his bottle. I put them up at 12 months but he stopped using them well before then.

Pacifier...I let him give it up on his own because he had a strong need to suck. He was slightly over 2 1/2 when he gave it up. Got a stomach bug and just never asked for it for weeks.

Oh and also.. my daughter wouldn't take milk in a sippy either. Then I bought her the Playtex cups with a straw and she did fine. Maybe it would work for your LO too?

It's nobody's business but yours, but I'd say by 2 for sure. Make sure you're taking good care of her teeth and no letting her fall asleep with the bottle.

She'll take a cup when she's thirsty. Trust me. These cups worked great for ours transitioning...

Took the bottle away 14 months. She rarely used a paci.

I think a year and a half max. Try a cup with a straw, it worked best for us.

I think pacifiers should be gone at a year, but my kids never used them so I never had to struggle to take it away. I HATE seeing older kids sucking on the pacifier.

We got rid of bottles at 1. We were going to get rid of the paci at one but the doctors thought it would be to much to get rid of the bottle, paci, and introduce a new baby as well so she got to keep it until she was 2. She has been off of them for 6 months now

Let's see. My Son self weaned off the bottle when he was 17 months old. Like your LO he had two bottles a day, one AM and one PM. He transitioned to a soft spout sippy which he still uses now (he's 3). And he sleeps with his paci and has it in the car. I guess you'd call me a slacker parent but I truly don't give a smurf what people think. My child, my business.
