It seems there are a lot of things are 'normal' in the states that aren't in Europe, like the use of midwives.... there is such a stigma about them, when they are just as qualified if not more so.

You are right. We, as a culture, have always been a circumcising culture, for the most part. People tend to do whatever the "norm" is. Information is key here, just like anything else.
