I agree. Take away infant circ and you will have the same issues as when abortion was illegal. People will preform them themselves and cost babies their lives. I can think of many things parents do that are worse for infants and children than cutting forskin, like second hand smoke and eating processed foods.

Quoting kthx.:" 98% of circumcisions in the US are performed with no anesthesia. A study conducted at the Institute ... [snip!] ... of memory (Study, Toronto Hospital for Sick Children). I mean.... to me, it's not worth it to put my son through that."

Ugh. BG has bounced me out 4 times while responding to this! Grr.

Anyway, while I'm passionate about some topics and will find and/or copy good info, I dont care enough about this one. Suffice it to say that there is lots of info that disagrees with the info you posted.
There is info disputing the inportance of cortidol measurements. also, there si info about pain in fetuses and abortion.
If we had a son the baby would be circd. my husband is Jewish. i prefer circd penises. If he was strongly opposed I'd be fine skipping the procedure but i wouldnt feel like i was sparing him some awful procedure and depriving him of anything later in life.

Quoting kthx.:" Again, those do not alter his body against his will. Not even comparable. "

My point was that there are MANY things that parents decide for their children. You just deal with it. I doubt the overwhelming majority of circd men are pissed about their parents altering their body without their permission. There are probably more men mad at their parents for giving them dumb names or dumb spellings of their name.

I agree. And i also agree that people should have a choice. If i want to circumcise, i should have the choice and right to,and my parenting skills and decisions accepted and not questioned, just like i should be accepting of someone who wants to not circumcise. Once the issue of what i do with my (future ) child's junk gets out of his pants, thats when we have a problem. Thats my take about every personal subject actually.

No one else is in control of someone else's guilt or lack of guilt. If you have nothing to feel guilty about, why would you feel guilty?

Most of us second guess ourselves; we do the best we can but we all make mistakes or we aren't always sure we made the right choices.... so we can feel guilty even though we did nothing wrong.

That's a lame, cop out of an argument supporting routine infant genital mutilation.

I think those are poor comparisons...breastfeeding affects the Mom's body so she definitely should be able to choose ( although its extremely risky not to bf at all IMO)

A tonsilectomy done without a medical reason would be a better comparison....assuming the foreskin is normal and healthy

I don't feel guilty. I don't believe I made a mistake in circ'ing my son. I did the best that I could with the information that I had. Admittedly, I didn't do enough research but my husband had just passed. There was no time to discuss the topic with my husband, before he died.

But you've deflected here because this is not about having an opinion one way or the other. This is about presenting facts to people who could use them. This is a very personal subject and people, therefore, take it personally.

It was never the vicious comments, name calling or belittlement that got me researching and re-thinking this subject. It was factual rebuttals that challenged what I thought I knew.

Tact matters.

To me it makes no sense. A child needs to be fed, a child does not need it's foreskin took off. It's not the norm over here, we seem to manage just fine as I never even hear about people needing to be cric'd, or people circing their sons.

It's pretty much the norm in the US so of course many people think it's ok! Guess it really does depend in a lot of cases where you grow up, and what you grow up around!

Quoting kthx.:" The illnesses come from poor hygiene. Period. If the kid doesn't clean his dick... he'll have a nasty dick, regardless if it's partially lopped off or not."

Agreed!

There's this big thing and getting it done for hygiene reason over in the US. If it was really such a good thing then the rest of the world would follow, but instead many countries are very against it!
