Hypoplastic thumbs

My son has hypoplastic thumbs and we were told he'll need surgery. Anyone else go through this?

So I googled it & got a few different things. Which does he have?

Im not sure, exactly. It's going to be fixed by a tendon transfer and the doctor said something about opponens pollicis.
The simple explanation is that he doesn't have that muscle at the base of his thumbs. He's got limited range of motion and the right one isn't opposable, while the left meets the bare minimum to be considered that.

And taking all that into account, and judging by the google images, that is Type II

What age are they doing his surgery? My son has an extra thumb that's missing the flexor tendon. They're waiting until he's a year old before they remove it. They also hace to widen the space between his normal thumb & finger

He's 11! You caught your son's early, hey? We didn't even notice until last year. He's always been smaller and a little bit behind everyone else when it comes to physical development, so I guess we wrote it off to that :-/
