This mommy needs help!

posted 3rd Oct
I am pregnant with my second and very excited i find my self doing the happy dance everyday haha. But im terrified of my weight. Before i found out i was pregnant with my first i was 145 and the day before i went into labor i was 210. I don't want to go up to 300 in this pregnancy. I understand eat healthy blah blah but if you are truly pregnant then always eating healthy doesn't work its usually me and my son all day and daddy gets home at 8.. Any ideas on what kind of food to buy and tips?? TIA

i am in the SAME boat... and I've been diagnosed with GD .... All I've really done, was changed my bread to Wheat,... Pastas to whole-grain.... sugar to splenda (sweet n low can be transferred to your baby, found this out at my "diabetic education course" .... and changed sodas to occasional diet drinks and crystal light. Takes SOME getting used to, but I would mainly snack during the day until my hubby gets home from work. Or, being afraid of gaining too much weight, I'd eat two or three times a day...when in actuality - you need to eat 6 times a day.... this goes for everyone, not just diabetics. THATS why it was hard for me to lose my baby weight with my first. b/c I ate very little, and therefore my liver kicked in and produced sugars to keep me energized..... thus caused too much sugar in my blood, being stored as fat. UGH! lol. sorry for the BOOK - hope i gave you SOME advice!  ) BTW Congrats on the pregnancy!!

What do you mean if you are "truly" pregnant then eating healthy doesn't usually work? That sounds like an excuse. I am 29 weeks pregnant and haven't gained anything yet...my weight fluctuates between 108 and 112 depending on what I've had to eat that day. It's VERY easy to eat healthy...for one I don't buy junk food because if it's in the house I'll be tempted to eat it. I don't eat a ton of carbs, but I make sure I get enough protein and healthy fats. I eat some eggs, lots of egg whites, soy or almond milk, always whole grains and never white or refined anything, some fruits and lots of veggies, peanut butter, avacados, and olive oil instead of butter. It's not hard it's just something you have to constantly think about...but making excuses won't get you anywhere.

be careful with diet soda, it has a lot more chemicals to make it sweet and without the caffeine, including aspartame, this is a type of sweet n low and can cause harm more so than regular soda.

Eat several smaller meals during the day, and cut out junk food as much as you can. I've only gained a few pains this pregnancy, and it should stay low. Try to stay active. It's good to stay active during the pregnancy anyway, it makes for an easier delivery.

Anytime you feel like snacking eat a cup of fresh fruit instead. My mom tried every diet in the world combined with exercise and nothing worked. Then she starting eating lots of fruit throughout the day and veggies and she's lost over 100lbs!!!!!

Thanks girl. The nutritionist did mention this, I believe.... I try to eliminate soda all together, however, this pregnancy has me craving all kinds of things that are NOT good for me :/ - so I give in to "treat" myself for doing so well...  ) Thanks again!!  )
