1. At the breastfed stage you don't need to do anything, just throw the whole diaper in the wash. Once they eat solids and their poop is more solid you can dump, swish, scrape, or spray it into the toilet then put the diaper in your pail/wetbag until wash time. It sounds gross, but isn't it more gross to have a diaper full of poop sitting in the trash? Also, technically it's illegal to put human waste in a landfill, yet people do it by the thousands.

2. Not if you take care of them, and they're fitting right. They hold in poop and pee way better than disposables.

3. Use depends on the age of the child. Younger babies go through more diapers a day. It's a good idea to start with at least 12 clean diapers per day for a newborn but right now my kid only goes through about 5 a day (she's 20 months).

4. You CAN get 'one size' diapers so that depends.. There are tons of options out there. One sizes rarely truly fit a newborn though. They're more 8-10 lbs and up.

5. Hmm, I think I've spent less than $400 total on diapers.

6. It depends where you live. I actually live across the corner from a cloth diaper store.. but I'm cheap so I normally look for deals online.

I've never used cloth diapers but I know that some companies will pick up & wash the diapers every week

Agree! I am using cloth diapers with a cover. We have spent less than $200. We have the covers that are one size. So they adjust to be small or large! We needed six covers and we have a ton of cloth diapers. Which there are many types of cloth diapers as in what kind of fabric. Anyways WAY cheaper. There is a ton online but I found a store in OMaha so I drive there!

I go with primarily pre-folds and covers too. It's the easiest to me!

I have a few prefolds, we picked up 20 for double up days. But totally agree, I did a LOT of research and that is the cheapest way to go and easy! How many covers did you get?

she answered most of it but I have a couple of thigns to add.

It's really simple once you start. Just make sure you get a detergent that is good for cloth diapers, regular laundry soap causes buildup that lowers absorbency, causing them to leak. No big deal if you get a big size container of it, we had some that lasted most of a year.

I spent a $350 on cloth diapers for my son 2 years ago, and then it cost us about $5 a month in our water and electricity bill for washing.

They go up in sizes around the same time they change clothes sizes, it just depends on the kid.

I also used cut up old receiving blankets as wipes and used water in a cheap spray bottle so I never had to pay for wipes either, just washed them in with the diapers.

When on the go just use a wet bag for the dirties.

It's really not that complicated but it can seem overwhelming at first.

Diaper services are too expensive for long term use, unless you're loaded.

Gosh I have a lot now I think .. 10 or 12 but I only wash every 3 days so lol.

1. I wash them every 2-3 days. Cold rinse, warm/hot wash with cloth diaper safe detergent, rinse until I don't see any bubbles. Breastfeed poo you don't need to rinse, but I always did. I have a diaper sprayer attached to my toilet to spray of poos. They may stain, but don't use a stain remover, too many harsh chemicals.

2. I use pockets and all in ones. Mine don't leak, but you need to change them often enough. I also don't have the blowouts I use to experience with disposables.

3. I use anywhere from 7-10 a day.

4. All of mine are one size. He didn't start using them until he was 6 weeks. I bought newborn, but he was too big for those.

5. I've spent way too much, but once I'm all finished I can re-sell or use for another child.

6. Both. Depends on where I can find good deals.

Do your research

I think alone the covers in colors are super cute! But I am pumped to make some special ones. I can't wait till he is older and can crawl around next summer in just his little cover! AWE.

I just want to add a few things for the washing/stains question.
Sun is a great stain remover! It's also cheaper than using the dryer. If you do use the dryer (some times you don't have time to wait for air drying!) never use dryer sheets they lower the absorbancy of the diapers. Same goes for fabric softener in the wash.
Oh and I spent about $200. I have 26 pocket style diapers, 2 pail liners and 2 small wet bags. I was given a ton of cloths to use as wipes which I'm going to use once I run out of the ones I bought.

Get wool dryer balls! Besides, think of how you'll save money on dryer sheets and cut down on the number of nasty chemicals you get on your family's skin. Also if you DO use the dryer, make sure you use EXTRA LOW or you can melt your diapers/covers lol.
