Toddler questions
posted 3rd Oct
Woo first post in the toddler forum haha anyway...
My son will be 13 months soon and I'm just curious when to think about potty training? When do most parents try? This is my first child so I'm not sure if there is a "best time" specifically for it or if its just one of those things that it just depends on the parent?
Also, I know he still maybe too little, but when does his crib get converted to the toddler bed?
That's about all I can think of right now...I'm sure I will at some point have more to ask lol.
TIA for the info.

With my DD we started potty training around 15 months. We would put her on the potty before bath time and eventually she would ask to go on...by her third birthday this July she was fully potty trained.
for the toddler bed, we put her in at two because she could climb out of her crib.
My son turns two in a few weeks and loves his crib still so we are waiting a little longer for the bed so we can just put him in a twin.
with my son potty training is a little slower. He will pee in the potty but will not poop! Lol

The answers to both questions all depends on your kid. He's only 13 months so I highly doubt PTing will be happening any time so but you can watch out for signs of readiness in the mean time. Some of them are indicating when he needs to potty, keeping his diaper dry for long periods of time, taking his diaper off when its wet.
As for the crib, I kept my kids in their crib for as long as possible. It was until they were 2 that I converted their cribs over to full sized beds. Never did the toddler bed thing.

You can show him the potty and let him go in the bathroom with you or someone else. They should be showing sign of interest before you start. Usually they are able to start working on actually using the potty between 2 and 3. I started my older two at 2--my son caught on in a week, my daughter took months.

When we noticed him taking an interest in the potty and understood hen he had to pee after practicing ofcourse by running around the house naked. he just turned two but every child is different. we are about to move and I'm having another one in the same month so we are going to settle in and once he's comfortable we will try it again.
s for the toddler bed. I converted his crib to one when he started climbing out of it. he was like a year and kept trying to kill himself that way.
it's not about time, it's more when you feel he is ready. enjoy the crib while you can. lol

Okay thanks ladies!
I still have a way to go then. I was going to ask what the signs were, but they have been posted lol.
He does take his diaper off a lot when it's wet lol. I think that's just because he's a nudest lol. He hates diaper changes and wearing it. It sometimes take 2 people to get a diaper on him and as far as the nudest thing goes I may need to get the duct tape out. LOL

Yes, look for signs. Our son started saying "Mama/daddy I Stink!" and pulling at his diaper so we knew he was definitely ready to start potty training.

Oh no! He doesn't climb out of it yet. I don't think he could anyway with the sides being tall. Oh & I am enjoying the crib with as much money as it was...I want to get the maximum use out of it

mine is a nudest too. he can keep his clothes on in public but when we get home it's all off.... everything. uh. I just take him to the potty every hour.
