You might know. If we are moving to that area in a year, when should we start looking/bidding on a house if we need to move as soon as we get to town? I will be in another country while we are looking and DH will be deployed.

Okay, completely forgot about interest.
Well while on that note, my husband just went to Bank of America since it has always been his bank.. I just don't know if it would be best to stick with a bank or going with an outside company. I don't think his interest rate is terrible with BOA but again, I know nothing right now

Oh my gosh and a ten year mortgage, AWESOME!

That's what I thought. I don't like that. Lol
But seriously, you don't know if there really are other offers or if theyre just trying to push you as far as you will go.
Did you use a realtor?

Yep. But, it's in Bangalore. I'll be living there for a year and then we will use it as a vacation home. 4 bedrooms, 2 baths and 2 acres.

That is not bad at all, I thought it took at least a month. Well we've got a lot of work to do in the next month to even try shooting for that time frame.
As for sort sales, it's googled about how longit can take and a woman said she put in an offer and five months later hasn't heard back from the bank. Egads, I could not sit still for that long!

That is exactly what happens to my friend, it took them five houses til they finally got one. I don't think the market is too crazy down here, I'm from Chicago, where my friend was haing the trouble.
I definitely don't want to settle though. Especially since I've gotten so accustomed to moving, this will be move six in five years and were not military hah

Wow, How is the housing there, that is huge especially for the price. Are they even comparable to here? I don't think I cold every live outside of the US, at least not in the near future, too intimidating.

Ours was neither either time, we looked Into houses after we moved here and we were interested in a short sale and when they told us it could take 3-6 months we decided to rent since we know we are only here for 2-3 years max anyways. We were glad we didn't lose much but since we had accepted a relocation package and a job in nh already we were just happy to sell and not be stuck with the house lol

Oh no. $30k American is expensive. Most people there make roughly $10 or $20 a week. That's why I'm nice to the call center people, because I know how much they make. A nice silk shirt is about $2 and a can of coke is about .10.

We did. Our first house was a family friend and my SIL sold our old house, and helped us find our current house. Both people we fully trust, so we went with their advise. I loved working with both of them. Hopefully we won't be moving until the girls are done with H.S.! lol

Okay those of you who used a buyers agent, how often did you speak/meet them until you signed a contract with them?
We toured one house with one lady this weekend and a second lady took us to three homes.. we didnt really care for either. I'm just feeling sucked I'm by rhe home that took us to three homes (well the first home she couldn't get her key to open the lock box)
We are going tk a different area next weekend and I'm wondering if i should use the same guy to take us to look at the jomes on my lost down there, our split them il among several agents to not get too commited? I just don't want to get trapped into a contract until I know the agent is also looking out for us

On our house in VA, we put in a bid for the asking price and that's what we got. That sucked because the person who originally bought the house did it as an investment (it'd never been lived in). She made a good 70k off of us. Then the market tanked.. We just refinanced that house spring of '11 and lost a good 90k on depreciation
The house we live in now was on the market by the builder for $286K. The appraiser came through and said 280K though and the builder was motivated so he gave it to us for that along with chipping in enough to cover the closing costs. The whole closing process took about 30 days. We loved our last realtor, she took our calls at all hours and took me to houses all day long for a few days when I flew in to visit.
Side note, I hate BOA. They took over our first mortgage from Countrywide and refused to help us at all with our refi. We eventually went with Navy Federal for both mortgages.
