re: First Dental Appointment?

My 18 month old has a bunch of teeth, and my almost 3 year old obviously has a ton. That would be so cool if I could find a dentist like that. Guess it's time to start that search, haha.

But you know what, they are trained to deal with that as pediatric dentists. It does sound like laziness to me. A 4 year old can act a fool in a dentist chair also so not wanting to see them due to concerns about behavior is pretty irrelevant.

It's really great. Every six months they'll have a children's day and they'll have a theme to go with it. The dentist and all the other employees dress up with the theme and they allow kids to dress up to! I use to babysit my sister in laws daughter and took her to a few appointments there and she loved it! I'm hoping it will help LO feel more comfortable too!

Yeah. I'm going to call my insurance and get a list of covered dentists and then call them all and find out which ones will do check up for kids. The kids will just have a different dentists then us, but thats fine. I'd rather a pediatric dentists even when the kids are 4, you know? I'd much rather take them to someone who is willing to work with kids.

I think this place just feels that before 4 your only choice is to hold them down and force them to open their mouths. I said, I get they don't get a FULL check up, but you can still try and work with them, do a check up every 6 months to a year, adn make it a GOOD experience rather then that. But I suspect they figure that takes up too much time for the amount they get for a check up, so it isn't worth it.

So you're right. I'll look for a pediatric dentist for them as their primary.

My dentist said around 2 years old, and every year after that. and it is not really so much a "check-up" as getting them used to the chair/lights/tools, etc.

See, this! I know it wont be a full adult check up, lol. But if she goes in before she's 4 and gets used to it all, then when they need to do xrays and "real" check up and cleanings she'll be more used to it.

Well, our check up's are free to us, and we've paid for this dental for over 3 years without using it once, haha. So I'm not worried about the money, and the time is an hour of my time.

I feel like getting her used to it would be good, and I'm concerned about her teeth since it was so hard to brush them for so long.
