then if your 6yr old went out and killed another child, would you want them tried as an adult, because "he knows the consequences"?

I may seem that way...but that is because this is not a black and white issue.

I agree with this. And most murderers try to hide what they've done, so I don't consider that a childish act. It's human nature to hide our mistakes, which is further evidence she knew it was a bad thing to do.

Not at all. The consequences of murder are clearly stated and widely known among the population. EVERYONE knows what happens if you murder someone.

Not every teenager knows what happens if you get drunk and then drive or don't have the money to pay bills because you spent it all on clothes. There are things that teenagers haven't learned yet, but the consequences for murder are not among the things they haven't learned.

lol. that's stupid.
if a teenager is mature enough to get liquor, and drink it, then go out and drive, they know very well what can happen.
they warn you in school and drunk driving, but not murdering your fellow peers.
they also warn you what can happen when having unprotected sex.
but does knowing those things make you an all knowing wizard?
just because you're told "hey, this is wrong, don't do it." doesn't mean you FULLY understand what is going on, or what can happen if you do perform said action.

Exactly. Her hiding the evidence shows that she knew it was wrong. Not that she was being childish about it.

And no I would not expect my 6 year old to be tried as an adult. But we're discussing teenagers here. Not my 6 year old.

No, 18 is fine. I do think they should raise the voting age to 21, though.
I don't really agree with trying KIDS as adults, either. By law, 18 is an adult, so they shouldn't be charged as such unless they meet the legal criteria as an adult.

Although a teenager may know that murder is wrong and that murder results in death, many do not realize the devastation it would cause to that victim's family, nor would many, in a crime of passion, realize the finality of death, that in that moment of snap judgment, they weren't thinking about the consequences, but more or less thinking about satiating that emotion that would cause them to kill.

Like a mother shaking her baby to death. She gets so worked in trying to calm the baby down as well as quench her frustrations, she forgets that shaking the baby could kill it.

Either way, a teenager doesn't have the mental capacity of an adult.

I just said a teenager is NOT mature enough to drink and drive because they don't understand what will happen. Do you read what I write or just skim it and then start writing your own rebuttle with no thought? Those things you just spoke of are why I don't feel it's right to lower the age of adulthood. Teenagers aren't capable of handling adult situations. But they DO know that murdering people is wrong and that you go to jail for it or get the death penalty and that when someone dies, they don't come back.

Yep, it is a proven fact. The frontal lobe reaches full development at 21-22 (females) & things really start to 'click' if you will.
