My daughter was in a twin size bed at 18 months and she loves it. We got a rail so she doesn't fall out of bed but we've had no problems at all with the transition.

Her's looks like this...

My only problem is that she has two big closets in her room that don't have doors. I'm going to have to figure out a way to keep her out of them!

I put my daughter in a toddler bed similar to that right after she turned 2, the transition wasn't easy. In her crib she would sleep all night, once in the toddler bed she new she could get up so she was up and down all night which was exhausting. After a few months of that I decided to switch her to a full sized bed which she done a lot better with. I guess mine just didn't like the toddler bed and wanted a "big girl bed!"

When my DH is away I usually try to have her sleep in my bed with me & she hates it. So I'm a little nervous! lol

Yes! lol She has to hide behind & curtain & "scare" people. I'm think of maybe getting one of those accordin (sp?) doors.

I tried turning my son's convertible crib into a toddler bed at 19 months. It went great for the first week or so, he didn't try to get out of bed and slept well, but then he learned how to open doors and I couldn't get him to stay in bed. He was constantly coming into our room at all hours of the night, and was a nightmare to get back to sleep. After 2 weeks of that we gave up. We'll try again later. My MIL is going to buy him a bedroom set for Christmas with a twin bed, maybe he's just not ready.
It's worth a try to see if your daughter is ready now, if not, there's no harm in going back to the crib for awhile. You have a long time before the new baby comes.

Are you renting or do you own? Closet doors can be installed pretty easily.

Check Sears! I know I was just browsing the catalog and they have ones for larger door frames!

We were going to get a door for them, but it's so wide we can't find doors that are already made.

My oldest was in a twin bed shortly after her first birthday. She just preferred it! My second waited until about 18 months. They share a twin bed now and LOVE it. I've never even used the rails. They've never fallen out.

As for the door issue, some baby gates have extensions you can buy to make the gate fit wider doorways. My husband works for a building supply company and custom doors are NOT cheap. If a gate with extensions is still not wide enough, you could buy a 2X4 or something thick enough to make the doorway narrow enough for a gate to fit and nail it to the wall on one or both sides of the doorway (only has to be as tall as the gate). That could at least be a temporary fix until you could afford custom made doors.
