After a year

posted 3rd Oct
A year ago Teagan was evaluated and put into the Early Intervention program. She was severely delayed (language was at a 3 month olds level), making little eye contact, not speaking, not jabbering, not playing with others. Really bad sensory problems too. They were looking at autism a lot.

A year later, after a TON of therapy and working with her, she no longer even qualifies for services! She's ahead in all areas except for expressive language, but even with that she's in the 'normal" range, so she doesn't qualify for any therapy anymore!!

This is so exciting to me. I'm so proud of her!!

Congrats Teagon! You guys obviously worked really hard and I'm glad to see it paid off so well!

So was she just behind developmentally? No underlying problems?

She was a 27 weeker. We think that all her sensory problems made her treat into herself (thus the autism looking behaviors). Once we worked out all of those sensory things, she was able to really flourish.

Oh geez! Poor thing! Wow, she's really come a long way then, huh? I forgot what they called it, but a kid I knew had a problem similar...where they experience autistic symptoms but they are classified only to get therapy, and aren't actually autistic.

She's such a little peach.

She really has! This was her about a week after birth:

And it's called sensory processing disorder, and can look a LOT like autism. Actually, I think it's still on the spectrum. Her's was likely due to being a preemie, but I'm so thankful we were able to work through it. She is one tough little cookie though!
