infertility and what to do next.

posted 3rd Oct
My short story....

Hubby and I have been married over 4 years and in those 4 years I have not been pregnant yet. We have not used Any type of BC in that time period either.last year my hubby had His sperm count tested and everything came out perfect!! It has been a about a year since I have tracking my cycles and they range from 26-38 days. Back in February I had my appendix removed and while they were in there they said I had blood around my ovaries. They were not sure if it was a cyst or not. I followed up with my ob and they did a sonogram and they didn't see anything.

In November I will be going for my yearly and I plan on talking to my doctor about my issues. And not getting pregnant.

What are the next steps? What tests will they run, what kind of questions will he ask. I just want to get the ball rolling we have been actively trying for a year.

I just want a light at the end of tunnel. And some information on where I go from here. Share your stories I would love to hear the.

Baby dust to all you ladies!!!!

If I were you I would go to a specialist, such as a fertility specialist AND an endocrinologist specialist. It could be endometriosis, it could be PCOS, or something similar to those two. I have PCOS. Are your cycles pretty regular? It could also be an issue with your thyroid. Don't give up hope, I'm not sure if a regular OB/GYN would provide many answers for you though.

I would definitely talk to your OB about the issues. Especially not having regular cycles. They will probably order blood tests to check your thyroid, progesterone, and other levels. After the results come back, then you will know what the next step is. They might refer you to a specialist, or just order Clomid or something else if you're not Oing, etc. The possibilities are endless on their plan of action, depending on what's wrong- if anything.

My cycles varied from 20 days to 35 days and were all over the place. Ovulation is what keeps them regular, and after charting my temp and going for bloodwork, we knew I definitely wasn't Oing. Four cycles of Clomid and finally a BFP. Good luck, keep your head up!!

We had to have hormone levels checked by blood work to check if you ovulate my ob looked after everything they prescribed drugs to make you ovulate clomid you get tests monthly to see how high your levels are if this is not successful the can prescribe another drug if this still doesn't work they will send you to a specialist that's what my doc was going to do don't give up good luck

I would reccomend temping and using OPKs to determine if your Oing or not. Some reg ONGYNs will give you a prescription for Clomid prior to sending you to all the specialists if it appears your not Ovulating. Check out fertilityfriend.com it's an awesome informative website thy teaches you how to do it and tracks your data for you! Good luck!!!! I know how frustrating it is

A fertility specialist is an endocrinologist and you need to see one. You will begin with the standard testing that includes lots of blood work for you, a sperm analysis for your husband and a dye test to check your tubes (HSG). Your RE will also do blood work to check if you are ovulating. After all the test results come back you will meet with your RE to discuss your results and make a plan of action.

And it's never too late to start temping, especially if you are new at it. Your chart will know where you are and it will help you get used to the process before your next cycle starts. I don't know how it is for others but the first cycle I attempted to chart was a mess!

It's important, if you're not ovulating, that your doctor find out why and treat the cause instead of just blindly prescribing Clomid.

So should I talk to my ob And go from there. My husband already had his test done and he is fine. My ob said last year I should have the hsg but the referral got lost and I didn't have time off work to get it done.

Thanks for all the information!! :-)

Yep. Your OB should refer you to one. If he or she refuses to find a new one! That shouldn't be a problem though for as long as you've been TTC.
