child support process?

posted 3rd Oct
ok, im sure it is different with every state..
but whats the basic process of child support?
i filled out the application and mailed it in with the 25.00 processing fee last week..
so im wondering what the next step would be?
my son is 3 and BD and I have been split up for about 2 years...
i have my son 5 nights a week and BD has him 2 nights a week...the most hes done is give me diapers every now and then...
he doesnt help with food, clothes, school supplies, gas, doesnt take him to his speech therapy or dr appts (he has autism so he has alot of evaluations)

im just wondering how this all goes,
thanks!

When I did mine I filled out the application then they brought me in for an appointment to ask more questions. After they get all the information from you they will then file it with the court and you just have to wait for the court day. Right now my ex husband is 1300 behind. I'm still waiting on them to do something. All they've done so far is send him a letter saying they'll suspend his license.

Yes. Even if he doesn't show up for the court date, you have to go.

Yea they do end up in jail but the process is stupid. They send him to court first. But first they have to mail out his court day for him to go. So far that has not happened and they told me they'll only give him six months of being late. Well last month made 6 months. And yes you will have to go to court too because they will explain everything to both of you. It's usually pretty quick. Our case was the first so we were out of there in less than an hour. But the process is quick. But I am about to send a email to the one who has my case and find out what else they are doing since he is not gonna pay. They told me last time that since I am a party in this that I have to help them locate him. Like WTF yall know where he lives. Yall served him the papers at his address. Why should I have to help locate him when his address didn't change. Good luck with the system that's all I will say. They are all for the ones who don't do right by the children but us that work our ass off to give our kids what they need get screwed. He goes out like 4 out of 7 days a week. He's supposed to get him every other weekend since we divorced March 26th. It's October and that hasn't happened yet.

Now they make u pay a processing fee and once child support is established they will take 25.00 annually for processing. So one check will be less than the others cuz they'll just deduct it out of one of the checks. They never told me which one they'd do it on but they did tell me there was a 25.00 annual fee also.

they will assign you a caseworker & then you will go in to sign papers. Cs will take care of getting him served. We didn't even have to go to court he just went in and signed papers after they told him the amount. Now that he's a few grand behind we will have to go to court when they finally catch up with him

This is more the process I went through. Caseworker. And now they've scheduled a meeting with only him to talk about the amount he has to pay. Court is only involved if he contests the amount and we have to negotiate or he gets behind on his payments.

And here in Georgia, there's always been a $25 fee that I've known of. If you have Medicaid and/or food stamps, they waive the fee.

It sucks the way that works. My oldest 2s dad owes 26,000 & we've been going to phone court for over a year, they just give him extensions. That means that out of 12 years he hasn't paid for 8 of them. I wish they would just lock him up already

Have you sent in the application with your paystubs, childcare costs, BC, ID, etc yet? Or just the application by itself?
