black bloody bits of mucus plug?

I lost my plug weeks ago, my stats are 37w4d 4cm/90%/-1/bulging bag, and this morning I went pee, wiped, and got freaked by what i can only describe as black period looking black black bits of mucus plug.... I know bleeding can happen once you're checked for dilation etc, but would it be black and mucus plug textured? ???
