Lower abortion limit

posted 3rd Oct
First this isnt a pro-choice/pro-life debate, so save it for another thread.

There are calls in the UK to reduce the limit from 24 weeks to 20 because of advances in science when it comes to babies born at 24 weeks. Do you think the limit should be lowered or kept the same? Is the limit different where you are? Do you think whatever it is, is right/wrong? Im just curious on peoples opinions on it.

Honestly I think the sooner you abort the better, but thats my opinion.

So do you think it should be lowered?

Sometimes fatal conditions with babies are not diagnosed till later to due to imaging issues that's why it goes to 24 weeks

I'm not "for" it being lowered.

Yes, thanks to medical science, babies are being born earlier and earlier. But that doesn't mean that that is the right thing for them.

I'd rather the option to abort be there and for it to not be there and for a woman to need it

Lower it imo.

But I had a 24 weeker so I'm horribly biased.

I agree...

I think keeping medical reasoning abortion limit to 24 weeks and other abortion lower to 20 weeks.

I feel torn on it. I feel like a woman should NEVER have to be pregnant when she doesn't want to be. But, I also feel like it's wrong to abort a baby that could survive out of the womb. So I don't really know if I feel it should be lowered or not.

The limit for abortions is 12 weeks in the States. 18 weeks for medical reasons (I believe).

I personally think 24 weeks is too long. It should be lowered. I am guessing at 24 weeks in the UK they do a partial birth abortion?

That being said, I don't mean for it to cover babies that have fatal deformities or those that could kill the mother. They should be able to get abortions right up to term... imo.

Hmm I was thinking about this when I was 24 weeks along - I could feel her moving about all of the time I could feel her kicking and squirming. I also thought of her as a real baby then because she was so active - I actually loved her from around about then. And then I though - smurf! You can still abort at this time! But not everyone feels the same way - so I just don't know.
