ARMY wives

posted 3rd Oct
How do you and your husband like it? How are your kids eith the lifestyle. I read the booklet on it all last night when my husband brought it home for me. He is going to be applying to be a warrent officer. The recruiter told him that with his current job training and experience, that it will definitely help him get it... any info at all that you eant to share would be helpful... housing, moving, life in general.... anything not in the 'welcome to the Army life' booklet would be helpful. Also, any specific questions you feel eould be good to ask a recruiter would be great.

TIA,
Veronica

Recruiters lie lie lie lie! I personally would not ask one anything, they tell you what you want to hear. As for the life in general, it's not bad but you have to be really strong. Especially for your children. It's hard to up and move when you made a lot of awesome friends but its a chance to make some of the greatest (IMO) friends all the time. I hate 24 hour duty. I wish I could have my husband all the time but we all know that will never happen. The number one thing I really hate is the fact that they can tell him he's leaving at anytime and there's nothing you can do about it. Plans get ruined a lot, but its nice to be able to take leave (if you know how to save your days) whenever you want (for the most part). Hubby likes it but hates it. Its hard to explain really, but I do know its all he knows and wouldn't change it for the world. I could go on and on but LO is waking up. You can message me if you would like and ask me anything

Can you stand to be without him for hrs, days, weeks, or mths on end?
Will you get upset when they have to work "after hours" cause someone dropped the ball or the NCO wants to be a douche?
How's your sex life? Great? Well you won't have one afterwards cause he'll be too tired to even think about sex.
You like your kids to constantly ask "Where's Daddy"?
Rumors? Ya if you live on post be prepared for those. Oh and also the one's where the AW (army wives) are telling DH you're cheating or vice verse.
How's your paycheck now? Well you will barely get paid either a mth to support you now unless you know how to budget like crazy.
Be prepared for the Army to mess up his pay atleast twice a yr and don't get me started on any "extra" pay like travel, BAS, BAH, cause everyone will tell you it's hell to get the back pay.

Umm I know I'm leaving a lot out.

Well dang! A lot of that isn't true for us. We've had a pretty good experience so far. Our sex life is amazing and we never have problems with our pay. I've also never had any problems with any other wives or have had rumors started about us. I would hate it if I had all those issues

Not true for us either. My DH is a paratrooper with rapid deployments, they station these guys in Italy to deploy them anywhere fast. I don't have rumor problems either.

So, by doing a lot of research, and looking at the application, for Warrant Officer you dont need a degree... thats if youre trying to enlist as a regular officer. For all warrant officers other than the one for aviation (flying helicopters) you need x amount of experiance with your MOS... aviation is different. Besides the long application and review you have to go through (like a really long important job application), you just need to pass the asvab pass the physical, the fitness test, make weight, and make it through BCT and then they send you to the base in AL (Fort Rucker) for 10-12 months of AIT (I think thats what its called) and we can move there with him during that time.
I understand military life can get stressful. He can go off and get killed. Hell, the job he is in now he can go to work and die trying to help put out and get control over any wildfires or prescribed burn that could get out of control... two men died last hear and some got very badly injured this year. This is something he really wants to do, and I will stand by him and support him with whatever decision he makes. We know the key to a good healthy relationship is communication and trust. I know he may be too tired some days... after long days working fire lines he gets like that, but I am understanding just as he was when I was pregnant.
