Extremely itchy all of a sudden?
posted 3rd Oct
So I just woke up bc my oldest was crying and after getting her back to sleep, I began to itch all over. First on my arms and pads of my fingertips/palms and now my legs and face itch like extremely bad. I have no rash and my skin looks normal. I don't have dry skin, I slather myself with lotion morning and right before bed....I haven't used any new products that could be an irritant. Should I be worried? I'm 29 weeks along right now...I googled PUPPS and that doesn't sound like what is going on.

Hi there
I'm the same! I seen my Doctor last week and she mentioned a condition called Obstetric cholestasis. It's related to the liver and means that there's a build-up of bile acids in the bloodstream that causes a persistent itch. With this it is usually in palms of hands and soles of feet, though my whole legs and feet itch.
I had blood tests done to test my liver function which came back normal. I need them repeated this week as she said the itch can begin before the levels change.
In some cases they recommend early delivery but I wouldn't worry about that at the minute. Just see your Dr and ask about the blood test.
Good luck and I hope it eases for you soon.

You're welcome. Fingers crossed it's just your body being super sensitive

Thank you! My arms and hands and wrists are itching like crazy right now! Ugh I tried putting on lotion and I feel like that made it worse :/ maybe I'll try oatmeal baths just in case it is dry skin

Yeah you could try that. Mine is usually worse at night time. Keeps me up then I'm exhausted for work at 6.30am
Aloe vera gel works wonders for me though. Usually I scratch so bad I bleed and this stops the sting from that.

Well I talked to the nurse and she just said to take Benadryl and oatmeal baths ten to go to a dermatologist if it doesn't go away. So I guess I will try all that first :/ but if it gets worse and I still have no rash then I guess I will request a blood test just to be safe.
