I do not know what I should tell him.

posted 3rd Oct
My husband is a truck driver. He has only been driving trucks for a little over a month now but he trained in them for a month before they put him over the road. Before he left he was looking at it like it was a big adventure. He was teaming up with one of his buddies and they were going to let them drive the truck together. He had a stable job. It wasn't much but it was something. I know it wasn't near as much as he could possibly make with this job.
Well now hes saying that hes homesick and doesn't want to do this anymore he wants to come home to where he can see me and the kids every night. Which do not get me wrong I would love to be able to see him every night but it scares me the thought of him quitting so soon. I have a part time job. I do not make much. I work a pizza delivery place delivering pizzas for like 4.25 and tips. He would be able to get on at the same place I would have to step back and go back to answering phones even though I worked hard to get out of the store because I cannot stand being in there with my manager. He wants to do this till he can get a better job.
How are we ever supposed to get ahead? Right now we are on food stamps and the kids are on medicaid. Which might be messed up now because he was able to get insurance through the company that he is driving for. We knew that we were not going to be able to keep the kids on medicaid and I was happy about that. I hate accepting hand outs from the government.
I just do not know what to say to him. I love him. I want him home. I do not want to trade his happyness for money. But this was supposed to get us ahead. This was supposed to make it to where I could go to school, which I have been waiting on since I was 18 and now I am 23 almost 24.
I can't sleep. I feel like crying because I feel like I am being selfish thinking this way, I am sorry that this is so long but I just have to get it off my chest before I burst. Thanks to anyone that can help me or even made it through this whole post lol.
Sorry about the weird font I typed it up on a different program because I have had issues with this posting before they were supposed to.

Truck driving isn't really an adventure. My bio father is a truck driver and he says that it is boring and motonous but it's easy money really.

I would encourage him to stick it out until you could find a better job

Thats what I told him that it was going to be like. I have known truckers in my life. They all said that it was boring. He didn't listen to me and thought that it was going to be exciting.
If I were to try to tell him to stay I wouldn't get anywhere with him. I am trying to suggest it but every time that I do he just blows it off and starts talking about how he wants to be at home with me and the kids and asking me if I would like to have him at home. He knows that I would. I never wanted him to go in the first place. But I do feel that he made his bed now he should have to sleep in it for a little while.

Why can't he get a truck driving job where he's home every night?

To get one of those jobs you have to have at least 6 months to a years experience. He only has a little under a month.

Seriously? My fiance's dad & brother both drive trucks (well, his bro quit a while back), and they've never had to haul overnight. They've always been home every night & off every weekend.

Really big! It's a company that hauls peanuts I think... The trucks are white with green lettering... I can't think of the name to save my life!

He has looked at several companies its hard to find one around here that will accept you with so little experience. you have to be at the right place at the right time. He was looking into ups and hoping to get a day cab position there with them but Idk if he will be able to or not.

Maybe it's a location thing? The college in the next town over offers the course needed to learn to drive semi's, and they find you jobs once you graduate.

he took a class but it was an excellerated (sp?) class with one of the companies that was offering him a job.
This job that he has was supposed to be regional team but somehow got switched to all 48. Honestly I just do not know what to think about anything. My brain cannot process anymore today. Its just been a fun filled day with my husband dropping this on me and my car messing up and me having to miss work.

Hm. maybe it has something to do with that then? Like his actual licensing. They have everything, including hazmat, etc. Sorry today was so sucky, perhaps tomorrow will be better. A job at UPS would be cool though!

My husband drove for I wanna say 7 years before he was promoted to the position he is now. He loved driving and misses it, even though it was the same thing day after day. Some people are made to be on the road.
He had to be behind the wheel of a truck for 6 months before he could hire on with who he is with now, but he also hauled Hazmat doubles, which makes a difference in his company.

I hope your husband can stick it out until he finds something better.

im going to be kinda harsh but i feel like he should suck it up until you guys can save up some money. trucking is boring but it pays the bills. he has a family to support now and dreams get put on hold thats life. im not saying he should do it forever but you guys need to at least see a return on the investment of time he put in for training and if the company paid for the training he may have to work for a period of time with the company or he may have to refund the money they spent training him. i dont feel its fair he did what he wanted and found out its lame while you get stuck working for a pizza joint

If he's only been doing it for a month then I would be kinda pissed too about him quitting. He needs to give it a longer shot or at least stick with it until a better job comes around.
