3 year birthday coming up... what type of bike?

posted 2nd Oct
So my daughter's turning 3 and she loves her cousin's bike. But it seems like it wouldn't last too much longer. I'm not sure if I should get a regular bike... Any advice?

Should I get her this bike which I know she can ride (it's the bike her cousin has):

Or should I get her this bike:

Would that last one be too big for her? I want her to be able to enjoy it. Thanks for your time!

The smaller trike for sure. My oldest has a 12 inch with training wheels and loves it but she still steals her sister's trike (similar to the smaller one you posted). I got the smaller trike for my oldest's 2nd birthday and it's gotten a lot of love, even though at almost 4 she can perfectly ride the 12 inch, she would be just as happy with the little one still if I didn't have to hand it down to her sister.

I'd get the 2nd one because she'll be able to ride it longer.

My husband cut me off but the reason I say the first even though she'll outgrow it is because the 12 inch is very hard to ride, you still have to balance yourself even with the training wheels. It can be a challenge for even an advanced child and it might be frustrating to her she will get more use NOW out of the smaller bike.

That's what I wanted to hear. Thanks. I wasn't sure if the bigger one would be too big and by the sounds of it, it will be.

She hasn't had a bike so she's not proficient with the trike yet.

Yeah. My oldest couldn't ride a trike when we first got it (she was 2 like a I said above) but she learned really quick. She was about 3 years and 4 months when we got the 12 inch and she picked it up fairly quick because she knew how to ride but she had trouble with the balance (and not to brag but she's a skilled gymnast in a class 2 years above her age group) and it was frustrating for her. She did get it down and loves it not but like I said above, she still prefers the little one because she's faster on it and it's easier - she's lazy lol. Also if you have more than one kid, you'll get the use out of it with the next one. My littlest learned to ride the little trike at 16 months and loves it and I know we have probably another year plus with it for her!

Thank you.   Maddy's definitely not advanced so I can see her having trouble.

We're planning another so it'll be good use for the future too.

Yeah we're a big gender neutral house... though I wouldn't hesitate to let my son ride a pink bike... we could spray paint it...though it's just a bike, who cares if its pink. haha
