What stereotypes are associated with teenage pregnancy?
posted 2nd Oct
Thats my research question for my ISU project.
What do you think about the attitudes of others towards a pregnant teens and how people stereotype them? During your pregnancy did you go to the mall and notice people looking at you and whispering about you? Did any of your friends back away from you? How did your parents treat it? How have you been stereotyped? Welfare bound? Drug addict? Immature?
Any thoughts on the matter? I'd like to hear any opinion.

I was 16.. My parents tried to force abortion upon me and once they realized they couldn't they kicked me out.. I was glared at and everyone whispered... Friends started ignoring me left and right. I was called immature and childish.. I have a 2 story house, 2 cars, married my BD and are still together, almost 5yrs now. very happy.. feel free to PM me with any questions xo

I think everyone can agree that the biggest stereotype that teen mothers face is that they were too stupid to use proper protection and ended up pregnant, when in reality, smurf happens. I got pregnant at 19, so I didnt really consider myself a pregnant 'teen'. My friends did start to ignore me, and I even had a friend look at my stomach with disgust and say to me, "Whenever we hang out, you'll have her with you." My parents on the other hand were pretty thrilled about it. They were already getting one grandbaby [a boy] and I was giving them the first girl grandbaby. They were very supportive of me. :]

I got quite a few looks when I was pregnant at 17.
I still got everything done, I am still furthering my education, I am still able to work.
I did not stay with my daughters dad but I found a better one. I still get looked at like I was young when LO was born and I was, and I still get told I look young (some older lady asked me if I was 16 I am 21. I get that look out of the corner of peoples eye when we are at the mall and I am buying things, it is whatever I have learned to ignore it.

I didn't for the entire pregnancy.. Now I do, but only because I want my kids to know their grandparents. If it wasn't for them, no I wouldn't xo

I had a friend who got pregnant at 15. She really stepped up, finished school, married the father at 18, they had another baby and they both have amazing jobs that support them. Not all of them are capable of being so blessed but I just wanted to share a positive outcome of that situation.
