Quoting Tavi:" I guess this is where everyone's definition of CIO comes into play. I let LO CIO at 4 months once. She ... [snip!] ... crib and walked away. A little less than 10 minutes, she was fast asleep. Sometimes, there's absolutely nothing you can do."

I mean, that's not really true. There is always an alternative for laying a baby down and letting her cry herself to sleep - for example, holding her while she cries herself to sleep. Obviously you'll never know, but she could very well have fallen asleep in your arms had you rocked her for that 10 minutes.

I think it's too young. Then again I'm a big softie and I could never bring myself to let my kids CIO. I'd feel terrible

Way too young. I don't think a baby should ever be left to CIO, personally.

Yea, I wish you could have seen it. It actually seemed like the more I tried to get her to calm down, the worse it got. I don't feel bad for it now that I look bad, but then, it was just frustrating because you kind of feel hopeless. I think later on, we did CIO when she was 10-11 months, because at that point, we knew she was taken care of, but was overly tired and fighting sleep, and she's not the type to require someone laying next to her, because that'll only keep her up longer.

Yes, way too young   ... I would always rock my daughter until she fell asleep, even if she was crying for hours on end.

Absolutely ridiculous to let a four month old cry it out. They have basic needs that need to be met and crying is their only form of communication.

A baby goes from being completely smushed in it's momma's tum to being in a massive open space - there is nothing more comforting to a baby than to be held so it feels secure and to be given what it needs. You never left your baby alone when you were pregnant so why do certain people think as soon as baby is out it's ok for them to be left?

This!

A baby is crying for a reason and unable to communicate what it needs properly!

I agree on no CIO until they can talk and communicate with you. I probably let Sophia cry alone for a couple minutes only when I had to walk away and regroup on bad nights but I wouldn't really consider that CIO. It was more of needing a minute to not lose my smurf lol

ahhh hit the wrong one ! I let Emma " fuss it out " . She flops her legs , flips around and makes noises , but she doesn't scream and cry . I only do this when she is UBER tired after fighting sleep so she learns to self sooth .
