I agree, but at the same time, I don't want her just let out at 18, either, because if she is this mentally ill, she shouldn't just be let out on her own, which would happen if she is charged as a child, likely be out at 18.

but if she is found mentally ill, they wont just let her out. she will be required to get the mental help she needs before let out.
and even if she's charged, and let out at 18, I'm sure she'll be on probation, where she will have to check in, and have several check ins with a doctor..

You sure have a lot to say about everyone's opinion.. I was 16 when I got preg & 17 when I had my son.. Your still considered a 'child' at that age too and now a days 14 yr olds are just a mature as a 17 yr old & I knew exactly what I was doing, I also not once ever thought about killing my child.. However it is also the mothers fault since she wasn't more there for her daughter but then again when I was preg my mother kicked me out & my dad wasn't very supportive with it either & that didn't make me think about killing my child & not seek medical care!

& since you feel so sorry for this girl.. How do u explain ER not having any type of emotions while talking about the situation? It was okay for her to hide the baby in a shoe box? You don't think she would have known better? She wasn't 4 she was 14! By that age I believe your in 7th grade in middle school... I was 15 when I got pregnant, and 16 when I had him. I'm not justifying what she did. I'm just saying its not as black & white as everyone is trying to make it seem.
yes, she killed an infant. then hid it in a shoe box. the just screams child. why hide it, and not get rid of it? that is a child like thing to do.

That girl needs to be charged as an adult she knows what she did was wrong that she went out of her way to hide the fact she was preg and I'm sure the hole time she was trying to figure out away to get rid of the new born child. God just saying new born child makes me want to cry so bad for that baby boy. :..( that is no way for any child to come into this world it didn't even stand a chance it's like a horror movie that u wish if u were there u could stop it and save the child from being hurt. We need to rely on each other for support and throwing a child into jail won't solve a smurfing thing.
I don't give a smurf about everyone saying she needs to be charged as an adult you can't just chose if someone is an adult or not even though LAW says she is a child. Yeah, what she did was smurfed up - we know that - people are capable of doing mental things through fear. So, the little girl was terrified and messed up big style - let's just get rid of her! I read through some of this, and some of the responses are just mind boggling.


I do not understand how someone could think a child is deserving of the death penalty. She is a 14 year old kid without a fully developed brain. I am going to guess she generally knows right from wrong, and knows that killing someone is permanent and that it is wrong. However I can not say what her state of mind was. I can't say if she is mentally unstable, has a mental illness, or is just a cold hearted girl who felt like killing her child.

If people think that 14 year olds should be tried as adults, and face the consequences the same as adults. Then why should they not have the same rights as adults? They should be able to drive, drink, smoke, have sex with any adult, live on their own, enlist in the military, go backpacking through Europe by themselves etc. But the fact of the matter, is 14 year olds are not responsible enough and are not fully developed enough to be able to do those things.

She should not be tried as an adult and she should most likely not spend the rest of her life in jail. I don't think she should just be able to go home and pretend nothing happened. But the punishment needs to be suitable for her, and I am willing to bet part of it should probably include some intensive therapy, and evaluations of her progress throughout the course of the therapy.

As an effing adult. She knew damn well what she was doing.

i say charge her as an adult if she didnt want the baby she could have gave it up for adoption to a family that would love and care for it not kill it... no matter how she felt about smurf with her parents.... she killed that baby then hid the body so there for it isnt insanity... its stupidity!!!
