I don't see your logic here. How does knowing that she was pregnant and that she was going to kill the baby mean she doesn't have a mental illness? If anything, that screams mental illness.

You would think if she felt guilty or remorseful, she would have shown that during questioning.

that just further gives evidence that it was all premeditated.
she knew she was pregnant; hid it.
knew when she was giving birth; helped by using scissors.
then killed her child, and hid him in a shoe box.

then knew to go somewhere afterwards and say she miscarried? she planned this.
she quite possibly may be mentally unstable, but she still had the mind frame to go to a dr afterwards to care for herself after what she had done to her newborn son.

she didn't wanna ruin her relationship with her family, so instead kept it hidden and killed a child. instead of telling mom, and getting help, and abortion, or plan for adoption.

Adult. Obviously she has issues--anyone who kills anybody on purpose most definitely has issues. However, I don't think we should let murderers get off without any consequences, regardless of their mental status. It's incredibly sad, especially since her family seems pretty disconnected, but 14 is definitely old enough to be responsible for your actions.
