Running out of time :(

posted 2nd Oct
I am so frustrated!! I went to the OB today (39 weeks 1 day) and my cervix is still long, closed, and posterior. She asked if I wanted a c-section. I really really don't. They are concerned because he is estimated to be big (they estimate 8 lbs 14 oz) and I had really bad fourth degree tearing with my last delivery. I'm just shocked and disappointed that they are already pushing the issue when I haven't even hit my due date! I am so frustrated that my body isn't doing what it is supposed to. I get that since I've made NO progress they assume I'm not going to progress soon, but they can't be sure, can they? I also get that there is risk of permanent damage and complications for me if I have bad tearing again. The baby is fine, good heartrate, good fluid, past the NST and BPP easily. My weight gain is good and my BP is fine. I don't see why they can't give me some more time. I'm feeling pressured and so frustrated! She is having me come back in Thursday for another check, but really I'd need a miracle to progress in 2 days. I've already been trying to do more walking, bouncing on my birth ball and DH and I have been DTD. I'm ramping all that up, what else can I do? I hate spicy food and I am not comfortable doing castor oil. I've heard raspberry leaf tea can help? Anyone tried that? Can I buy it at a grocery store? Any other suggestions? I'm desperate!

Prayers appreciated!!! I really don't want a C-Section! Please cooperate little man!!

This may be irrelevant because DS was born at 37 weeks and smaller than his sister..but I didn't tear with him. They had to do an episiotomy with my first. Just because you tear with one doesn't mean you'll tear with another. Have you been doing massages?

No. They already have planned to do a lateral episiotomy with this delivery. So again, I'm not sure why they are pushing me. I'll ask more questions on Thursday, I was just too frustrated and shocked to think straight today.

go to a chiropractor and get adjusted. Totally safe and the reason I only pushed for 20 minutes and my son was 8lbs 4oz.. no tearing. Please do this. It could make a world of difference. It COULD possibly even put you in labor but obviously its not a guarentee.

I wouldnt go by any estimates they give you they forced my cousin into having a c-section because her daughter was supposed to be approx 9.5lbs. well they did the section and the baby was 6 14. Ultrasounds can be way off.

I would keep refusing. You can go from not being dilated at all to fully dilated in a day. And since they're planning on the episiotomy, I think it's ridiculous they're pushing a section.

Oh, this makes me sad

I have been thinking about you and hoping that AJ cooperates and comes on his own. I am no help on the going into labor part because my body didn't do it.

I have heard fresh pineapple can help...walking...maybe go for a very bumpy car ride?   will they strip your membranes? When I was having contractions with Keagan a student doctor checked me and she was pretty rough and that is when my contractions really picked up and I dilated a bit.

I will keep praying that things happen on their own for you!

just remember though you really did not want a section if that is easier on your body ( in some ways ) and he gets here safe and healthy then that is what matters.

thinking of you * BIG hugs *

Really? Where is the logic in this? (serious question)
I go to the Chiropractor weekly for an adjustment so will this make delivery easier for me?

All I've got is a wish and a prayer   We all know there is truly nothing you can do to make labor happen. Are they not even going to give you a chance with pitocin? Sure it "increases" the chance of a c-section but smurf me, at least give you a chance at vaginal first.

I was induced at 40 w 5 d with number 2 she was 8 lbs 5 oz and I didnt tear but with my first 6lb 10oz I needed stitches. I think the first stretches you out a bit lol

Don't let them pressure you into anything! My first separated my pelvis and tore me. He was 7 lbs 1 oz. I just had my second three weeks ago. He was 8 lbs 7 oz, didn't hurt my pelvis at all and I didn't tear. You never know what'll happen until they come out. I was induced with my second at 40 weeks 2 days. I progressed really slow until I got my epidural, then I relaxed and things went faster. I had a really posterior cervix too, but it eventually went forward enough for my OB to break my water. Tell them you want to wait, they cannot force you into a csection.

That is frustrating they're already pushing a c-section on you. I did the epo (evening primrose oil) pills the last few weeks with Steven, to help soften my cervix and I did the red raspberry leaf tea pills. They did help soften me up quite a bit. Also they could be wrong on the size and you might not tear at all this time or just a tiny bit! They predicted Steven was going to be well over 8lbs, and he was born at 40 weeks 4 days weighing 7lbs 15oz, he did have a big head and broad shoulders. I only tore a little bit, needed a few stitches is all. I am crossing my all for you and little man!!

And I think you learn a bit more about your body after the first time. You know what's favorable and what's not in terms of deciding on an epidural, what position you labor in (or birth in), etc.

Well from what I understand its just like the other old wives tales to help put you in labor, though it makes sense to me a little when you think your pelvis could be off from the weight of the baby (like mine was) and if they correct that, maybe that was the only thing causing your body to not start labor. Just a theory. It did NOT kick start my labor but I truly believe it was beneficial to me pushing out my chunk. He descended so well and they told me I'd have to push for 3 hours most likely but it was only 20 minutes

This. With my first, they made me start pushing as soon as I hit 10cm. DD wasn't descended all the way into my pelvis. I had to push her down myself. I pushed for THREE hours.

With my second, I told the OB I wanted to let him come down on his own. I hit 10cm and still waited another two hours. I could feel him down super low so I told her I was ready to push. Two pushes and there he was.
