Xanax

Has anyone taken Xanax while pregnant on a as need basis for anxiety. My doctor said that it was ok to take it in exteme cases like .5 mg. but not towards the end due to baby having withdraws. I haven't taken any but some days I feel I need it. Any suggestions

I would NEVER take Xanax while pregnant, regardless of anxiety or not.

I wouldn't take it. I've never heard of a doctor saying it was okay to take at all when pregnant.

Absolutely not!!!! And I am shocked you would even get a dr to give you some. Very very bad idea!

Doctor did not prescribe it to me. I was taking it before I got pregnant for extreme anxiety and she said it would be ok in EXTREME cases. But thanks for the info

Don't. YOU may feel like you need it, but your baby doesn't. Not taking it towards the end just means weaning the baby off of it before it's born, which is stupid. Think of your baby.

well my doctor was a loon too? there are some medications where you should continue taking them. if you are worried about what your doctor is suggesting, get a second opinion.

If you take xanax during your first trimester your fetus is at risk of having congenital abnormalities, I would not take it at all during your pregnancy.

umm.. xanax is like class Z when pregnant. lol. i would deff not take it, idc how crazy you feel.

anyways OP, have you tried other ways to cope with your anxiety first? Have you tried breathing into a brown bag? If nothing else works, then yes, I'd take the xanax, because the stress of dealing with the anxiety isn't good for the baby

there are many other meds she can take for her anxiety other then xanax

....I deal with extreme anxiety and have for years off and on in certain situations, without using medication. Simply because I know that medication is only a temporary fix for my anxiety.

Sometimes, developing a healthy baby is more important.
