Weight Help (kind of long)

posted 2nd Oct
Ok, I am 5'6 and 265lbs.. This is the heaviest I have ever been, and it's killing me. I feel so horrible all the time. All I do is sleep and eat. I'm a stay at home Mom with a 3 month old and a 4 year old who goes to all day pre-school. I can't really exercise right now because of a foot problem, but I will be having surgery on it some time in early November.

At least once a day I look at myself in the mirror and cry because I hate how I look. It makes me miserable, and depressed, and because of that my 4 year old gets the most of my frustrations. I know it's horrible to do that, and I try so hard to not to because NONE of it is her fault, but it happens.

I am going to start going to a therapist soon hopefully, but I can't help but feel that most of my depression is from my weight.

So now on to my questions:
~How can I loose weight efficiently, something that is not a scam and actually works.
~What can I eat that will fill me up but not "fill me out"
~How can I get more energy (I swear I am lethargic, I can't get the energy to do anything)
~Any advice, tips, stories, even criticism would be more then appreciated.

Thanks BG Mamas!!!!

and for the working out, just get up and start moving
i am the last person to ever workout
and i finally just got sick of my weight and went to the gym
go for a few days and you'll start feeling so good when you leave
JUST DO IT
thats all there is to it, there is no secrets
when you are there, EVERYBODY is there to look good.
its not easy for anybody there.

For the diet part...Weight watchers. It's always worked for me. You have to count points (which isn't hard at all), but weight just melted off of me when I did it. and for the exercise...if you can't use your feet, maybe do upper body workouts for now, get your heart pumping   and maybe even an exercise ball that you can do crunches on???

3 different kids of vegetables, green are the best - broccoli, asparagus
2 or 3 different grab and go fruits - apples, plums, pears - or get melon and have it cut up and ready to eat
2/3 different lean proteins - chicken, salmon, shrimp, low sodium turkey .. you can buy a whole chicken at the store that is already cooked and just cut it up and have it ready for different meals and salads, dont eat skin
spinach /romaine lettuce - whichever you like
cherry tomatoes
any thing else you like in a salad(see list at bottom)
dont use dressing, i like to mash up and avocado with lemon and pepper and just use that
or just balsamic vinegar and pepper
hummus
jalapeno slices
soups are really good for lunches too. the low sodium ones - nothing creamy
or you can make your own and just keep it in the fridge for a few days
brown rice (if you go to traders they have it in a bag already cooked) just stick it in the microwave for like 2 min
greek yogurts - non fat
quinoa
whole grain tortillas
NO TORTILLA CHIPS!!!

Day 1.

breakfast -
egg whites with spinach - and a grapefruit
black coffee

lunch-
make a big salad with protein in it
spinach, tomatoes,cucumber, avocado
and put as many veggies or fruits as you want.
left over cold veggies are really good in salad

dinner-
broccoli
chicken
if you decide to add more - brown rice

Day 2.

breakfast -
yogurt
an apple

lunch -
salad with shrimp, edamame
onions, lettuce, avocado
and left over broccoli

dinner-
turkey
asparagus
if you decide to add more - quinoa

another dinner idea -
chicken fajitas
cut chicken breast into strips
cook up some bell peppers and onions
season how ever you want, or they have the packaged seasoning
and stick em in a tortilla

my favorite meal ever-
baked potato
with a huge salad on top of it.
so filling & SO good.

the salad ideas are ENDLESS.
you cant put anything in a salad and it makes it really good.
edamame, bell peppers, onions, carrots, cucumbers, corn, beets, hard boiled eggs, craisins
peas, jalapeno, celery, green beans, cut up crab meat
add half a cup of brown rice ... if you want it to be a little more filling ...

fort snacking.. just munch on raw veggies & hummus, or a yogurt and dip apple slices in it
there is a million other things i could type out, so just ask me if you have any questions

I'm a huge supporter of Weight Watchers! I've lost with them before, and as soon as I pop out this little boy I'm going to sign back up. I lost a total of 40 lbs with them last year before I got pregnant, I wasn't wat my goal weight then, but it's nice since now I've only gained 17 in this pregnancy (so far) so It's not like I completely back tracked... They're great tho cuz it's all about portion control and if you're smart and eat more low point meals you actually can very easily watch the weight just fall off. I highly recommend going to the actual meetings tho vs. the online program, you definitely loose weight faster going to the meetings... or at least I have.

As for foods that will fill you up not out: Fruits and Veggies! As long as you're not lathering them in butter or oil or dipping them in ranch, chocolate or other "fatty" things... raw fruits and veggies are best of course since none of the nutrients have been cooked out but grilled and baked veggies are great too! Since they don't use much oil or grease in the cooking process but still brings out different flavors.

Eating more natural sugars (like from fruit) will help with energy. I've also found if I start my day off with a good yogurt (either a greek yogurt or a yogurt with probiotics) and some fruit (and a bit of granola for crunch if I feel like it) it's a great start to the day (especially since I'm not a big breakfast person). Drinking lots of water will help with energy as well as having good carbs (it's why most athletes will carbo load before a big even/meet/game/etc.)

Thanks every one!!! I will have to get some yoga videos or pilaties or some thing. I could probably do them with my daughter when she gets home from school every day. It could be some thing fun for us to do together. Since the baby was born we don't get any time together. It's always baby this or the baby that, or I'm too tired to do any thing. I quit smoking after I had DD so I think that is a big reason for the weight gain. Any one know how much Weight Watchers costs? And would I be able to bring my youngest, possibly my oldest to the meetings if I went? What about protien shakes? I don't eat any kind of fish except tuna, is tuna ok?You all are being so helpful thank you all again!!!

You don't need some diet plan or gym membership just follow your food guide measure your portions lean proteins lots of veggies. As for exercise start by walking put your kids in the stroller get a pedometer start gradually then continue to increase to challenge yourself eventually buy yourself wrist and ankle weights that will tone and burn more cAlories I eventually went four km in 20 mins I lost 60 pounds in no time you feel great the more you go I'm restricted by my dr right now because I'm pregnant but as soon as am able I will be back at it when the weather is nice I will take baby and my two " hairy babies"

get a shake weight! I love mine and it doesn't kill my back! Also I do all my crunches and floor stuff on an exercise ball to help my back. You can start there until you get your foot taken care of. Also, I have been paying more attention to when I'm full., I stop eating instead of saying "oh theres only a little left" I haven't really been depriving myself of foods I want just eating less of them and now I am finding I don't even want the junk food as often. Also, hot liquids make you feel full faster and apple cider vinager helps with sugar cravings. Also, find some sort of motivation to make you NEED it, not just want it. For me, I want to donate eggs because I really need the money and I have to get my BMI down to at least 29 before I can even be considered! Doing this I am down 10lbs in about 3 weeks which is a reasonable weightloss. If you want you can PM me!
