No it's all the same. What depends on how they are able to function is how much you work with them. Their IQs range between 40 and 70 so I think that makes a difference, but mostly teaching them is what's important for them to be successful.

There's high functioning people with DS. Then there's also 3 different forms of DS, such as Mosaic DS which means that not all their cells contain the extra chromosome, its a blend of 46 chromosomes and 47 chromosomes. But not every person has all the characteristics, regardless. For example my little guy doesn't have the distinctive single line across his palm, he has two like everybody else. His pinky fingers are bend inward, but apparently some people's pinky fingers only contain one knuckle- he has two knuckles. But he does have the gap in his tow and the slanted eyes. I'm not sure if he has a flat nasal bridge or not.. he's a baby his nose is just tiny like every other baby nose haha.

Some people might have hardly any physical signs and have health issues, or be mentally handicapped, or vice versa. Everyone is different.

I love this contest and how all of you can discuss DS. I wish it was the same for my disorder but hardly anyone knows about it

From what I was told, a child with DS is actually more likely to look like their siblings than to look like a child with DS. Obviously everyone has different features and traits, little kiddos are more likely to have more traits and features from your genes than DS traits and features, get what i'm saying? Lol

Such as Ness has a LOT of features just like her sister, and some of the faces that she makes are DEAD ON to the faces her sister made at that age! Lol
