losing weight while breastfeeding

posted 1st Oct
I gained about 50lbs during my pregnancy. Since having my daughter 3 1/2 months ago I've lost 20. I still feel so fat and gross. I don't know what I thought, I guess I just expected to have my body back by now..

I've dealt with bulimia from the time I was 12 until I was about 20ish, then I pretty much got it under control but it's still something I've struggled a lot with. Gaining weight during pregnancy didn't bother me at all but now that I can't lose it I find myself having to try really hard not to fall into the same habits again. I haven't and I won't, I'm just really feeling the temptation right now and I guess I figured coming on here and talking about it will help me feel better

Anyone have any good healthy tips for losing weight while breastfeeding? I've been going to the gym at least 3x per week and trying to eat healthy but I'm hoping someone will know of some other things I can try or diets to check out that will still provide everything my LO needs to get from me.

Thanks and please don't repost

Breastfeeding is not the time to diet. Just eat healthy and exercise.

I did lose the weight i gained while breastfeeding, however I never lost the anything else. Only the weight i gained.

You shouldn't diet while breastfeeding. Eat more meals throughout the day. Eat healthy and just change your eatings habits. However maintain enough calories to breastfeed.

I think you are doing just fine for that soon after delivery, but I understand the body issues. Keep at the gym, and just eat healthy, drink plenty of water. The less you focus on the number on the scale & more on what an amazing job you're doing breastfeeding and as a mom, your body will shed some weight when its ready. Be easier on yourself.

I didn't mean a diet as in restricting food, I meant diet as in what types of things to eat like that are healthy and will help me lose weight. Kindof like meal plan or workout idea type stuff.

I know I need to eat enough to keep LO nice and healthy   I just want to lose weight in the process if possible lol

I don't eat fish but I'm definitely going to try doing the small meals and cutting out wheat and dairy a little, I eat wayy too much of those I'm sure. And that's awesome! I lost the first 20lbs in like 8 days after having her then I've just stayed at that weight since :/

It was probably all the fluid weight...that comes off first and fast...the fat takes longer...she will suck it out of you tho if you eat healthy...don't skimp on meals...you need the energy and missing meals will actually slow your metabolism and make you hold on to weight..EBF as long as you can...my son was EBF until 8 months....it was his preference really

I gained 50 lbs of pregnancy weight too

Yeah that's what I figured. I've been going to the gym so hopefully that will start working. I'm going to try eating small stuff more often and more fruits and veggies. Definitely planning to breastfeed as long as possible too. I'm hoping to keep it up until she's at least 2

thanks mama. It's been hard but LO is definitely the motivation I need to keep it under control. The thought of doing anything that wouldn't be good for her is enough to stop me. Even if it does mean I'm stuck being kindof fat lol
