Quoting Squid Kid:" Took DD for her 18m checkup last week. She doesn't talk (She can kinda say "thank you" as "Dah-koo" and ... [snip!] ... for her. ugh.. I don't know what to do, she communicates fine with sign and understands them, why wouldn't they count sign?"

Quoting Lillybutt's momma:" They won't count sign because she isn't actually saying the word. DD has been in speech for 6 months and it has helped her greatly"
Quoting Misty Walls:" Does your dd have hearing problems??"
Quoting Jas ♥:" Sign language actually does count because its a form of communication. OP, have you had her hearing checked?"Her hearing is fine. If I ask if she wants a book, she will run to her bookshelf. If I ask if she wants to let her puppy out, she'll run to the dog cage.
Quoting Squid Kid:" No, she can hear fine and knows what things are when I ask."
Quoting Mrs. Dexter Morgan:" Maybe it's your pedi. Just took J to his 15 month wellbaby, he is 16 months and he can only say 2 words 'Mama' and 'go' and she was not concerned."
Quoting Squid Kid:" He said "Mom" doesn't count, either. Which is one of the only words she says."

Quoting Jas ♥:" Sign language actually does count because its a form of communication. OP, have you had her hearing checked?"It maybe a form of communication but its not actually using her mouth to speak. DD signed 5 words but they weren't consider part of her verbal communication. ST doesn't even consider them part of her verbal communication but more so a way of communicating so we can understand her and reducing her frustration
