Yeah, I love the heart, too. It's fascinating. We get a little bit of everything on my unit. Last night, all 6 of my patients were there for COPD exacerbation. I also had a couple of ortho cases. This is my first hospital nursing job and I'm definitely learning a lot. I'd love to work on CIC or CVIC one day. Then again, I'd also love to work in NICU. I don't see myself staying on this unit forever.

This is my first hospital job, too. I've moved around a little though. I graduated recently, December 2011. I don't plan on staying on my unit forever either. I'm right there with you, I'd love to be in the CVICU. I want to get my ICU certification - maybe that would help me make the med surg/ICU transition.

I graduated in December of 2011, too. I worked in a nursing home for a few months. I got this job in May, and I'm just now starting to feel comfortable. The first 6 months were rough!

Definitely! I hate that feeling of not knowing what you're doing.

Yay for not working in a nursing home. I worked for one for a very short period of time (I completed orientation and training and worked 1 day alone). I hated it.

I love old folks, but I couldn't handle the 40:1 patient to nurse ratio. It was incredibly dangerous.

Very unsafe. I ran my butt off. The CNAs are overloaded and I felt so bad for the residents who had their lights on for 20+ minutes because they have to pee.

It's that way on my unit, too. We don't have techs on my unit at night, so if I'm in another patient's room, I can't hear the call light. I feel awful when someone has an accident, because I couldn't make it to their room in time.

I work tele days, and it would suck without techs! I cannot stand the smell of any stool now that I am pregnant!!

And I too hated the nursing home although I worked in a sub acute rehab floor.

Yeah, it does suck. I ended up putting the C. Diff lady on the bedpan 10 times last night. No joke! I feel like I spent my WHOLE night putting people on bedpans, which makes it difficult to do my actual job.

Woot! I went to BRU to see if they had a doppler and the only one they had was for third trimester use.
