Meaning of names

posted 1st Oct
If a name that you really like has a bad meaning to it, would you reconsider the name?

There's a name I absolutely love but according to nameberry it means "crooked mouth" lol. But I love the sound of the name and it has some family history behind it.

My boy has the middle name that means "lover of horses" ... It makes me crack up every time. But it has significance so I used it.

Lol, maybe...My SO always says do you know the meaning of that name?! Look it up! ha.

What is the name? Does it only have one meaning?

lol my second name means crooked mouth in Scot's Gaelic - Campbell. I do like names to have a nice meaning but honestly if I liked a name I'd go with it even if it was a strange meaning. To be honest most people prolly won't know/ care what it means.

What name are you thinking of?

According to nameberry it only has one meaning, I haven't checked anywhere else.
The name is Campbell so her name would be Charlotte Campbell. My mother and my grandparents were from a town called Phil Campbell so that's where I got it from. I typed it into nameberry and found the meaning behind it.

What's the name? Nameberry is not the most reputable with meanings - try behindtename to confirm it.

My son's anme means "dog", so I guess meaning doesn't have TOO much power over my choice, though a really great meaning can help me to like a name.

We liked Cheyenne for a girl. It means "unintelligible speaker(s)". We were still going to use it though.

If you love the name enough, I say go for it.

Eh its a middle name. I don't think anyone is going to look it up and tell you what is means.

Lol as soon as u said crooked mouth I was sure it was Campbell, which is my family name. One of our ancestors (well a member of the clan) apparently had a crooked mouth and so the entire clan got stuck with it. It's a pretty common occurence with Scottish names, they take on physical features of people but most people will never know so I reckon you're safe with it.

Never heard it on a girl before, though I did go to school with a guy called Campbell Campbell. I kind of like Charlotte Campbell, it's different.

Crap lol. I still would like to keep it on our list but I really wish it had a better meaning. I'm trying to find a middle name that we both like and has more meaning behind it other than just liking the sound of it. I'd really like to find a family name we can both agree on!

Yeah, nameberry has it listed first as a boy's name but also as a girls name so I figured it could go both ways. I've never heard of anyone with the name before though. Just thought it was pretty and I know my family would appreciate the meaning behind it!

Nope. One of my favorite names means "not enduring" and another one means "bringer of destruction/murder." It is more of the sound than anything else I adore.

It's admittedly not the best 'official' meaning but you are kind of making your own meaning behind it as well with ity having links to your family and town, so u could always explain it to people in those terms.

I am scottish and most people in Scotland prolly don't know the meaning behind it so I reckon u'd get away with it, plus it's different with Charlotte. I think it's quite cute

True. And thank you! I'm trying to get my husband to like it as much as I do but he says "All I can think of when I hear it is soup" =/
